The ground blurs beneath my paws as we begin to run. Wind rushes past my ears. The forest opens before us. Behind me, sixty-nine wolves follow. But I run at the front. Alpha. She smiled as her thumb traced over the worn edges. “My passion.” A touch of wickedness crept into her smile as she handed the book over. “I do a lot more in the swamps than chase snakes.” Practically falling apart, the book fell open in Andrea’s lap to a drawing that looked all too familiar. She gasped. “This is the carving in the stone at the pass to Mathin’s citadel!”

I was curious to know more about her wolf but I certainly wasn't taking it. “ She is a healer….” “ And fucking dangerous?” I growled in disbelief as my eyes snapped up, glaring coldly at Vincent. Was supposed to take that? I squeezed the book in my grip as I could feel veins popping up, how dare he call my mate dangerous?“ I know it's hard to accept but I think you should read the whole book before making a decision.” “ There is nothing to fucking read here?” I shoved the book on the floor. “ You want me to fucking believe that?!”

They are unhinged creatures that lure travelers deep into the woods and nothing of them is ever found."

“Does that sound… stupid? Do wild animals try to help lost people?” “Not usually,” she said, taking her turn to shrug. “But around here, there are animals that will try to help. But… there are also animals that will do tremendous harm, Harlow. Those are the ones you must be careful of.” She leaned in now, too, so that we were only inches apart. “Tell me, dear, did you see any other houses, other than the one where the boy was chopping wood?”

I could only stare. What followed was an explanation. One of the elders took his time, laying everything out in detail. Apparently, werewolves were real. Every single thing I had witnessed was real. And then it hit me. I slept with a wolf. My hand flew to my hair as panic crashed over me. “Wait… I slept with a wolf? An actual animal? And worst of all, their leader?” The words had barely left my mouth before the entire room erupted. Their expressions darkened, fists clenched, and murderous glares locked onto me as if I had committed the greatest insult imaginable.
