It seemed to encompass everything in a silver glow. I looked around for some clue as to how I got here. I saw a regal looking woman approaching me. Her long, wavy hair was the same honey-colored shade as mine, but there were light pink highlights throughout it. As she got closer I saw her eyes were the same shade of purple as Kyra’s.

It’s gorgeous every single day, rain, hail, or shine and this morning, a little fog. I finish my shower and get dressed in a white t-shirt, dark jeans, black biker boots. I put on a little light makeup; I’m pretty pale, but that could be from the poor sleep I’ve been having lately; one good night is never enough. My eye colour is strange; they have a blue outer ring and grey in the middle with green flecks within the grey. Sometimes they look blue, and other days like today, they look grey. The one attribute I like about myself is my lovely dark loose curls; it’s a deep brown and flows to the top of my waist. When wet, my hair touches the back of my thighs.

Serena agreed, lifting a strand of my honey-blonde hair. “We’ll enhance it, not change it.” I tried not to shrink under the attention from them. They washed my hair first, the warm water relaxing my scalp despite everything. Serena dried it carefully, then began styling it. Soft waves at first. Then she adjusted them, pinning sections back slightly so they framed my face. She added subtle highlights—not bleaching, just brightening the honey tones so they showed in the light. When she finally stepped back, she turned my chair toward the mirror.

Next, I yanked my hairbrush from the nightstand and went to work. Blonde hair dye — not salon quality, but good enough to throw off anyone looking for a girl with black hair. I worked the chemicals in with quick, practiced hands, watching in the mirror as my black strands turned into an uneven gold. By the time I rinsed and towel-dried it, I looked like a completely different person… if that person had no time to care about perfect highlights. I waited. Listened. When their voices faded, I moved.

Ever since we returned, days have flown by really fast. After our little shopping spree, May and I had our hair professionally done by a hairstylist. May straightened her hair and added more purple streaks on her hair. Her hair was silky straight and it stopped at her mid-back with purple highlights and two pronounced strands in the front framing both sides of her face. My hair was treated, and the dye that remained on it was washed off returning my hair colour to the shiny brown color. I requested curls and I got just that and the luscious curls fell to my back and I was satisfied with the results.

She grabbed my hand and dragged me into the bathroom to stand in front of the mirror. “What do you see when you look at yourself?” I looked in the mirror at my wild head of curls in varying shades of blonde. People have commented before on my highlights, not realizing that it was from the sun, but I guess it’s a look; it never meant much to me, though; it’s just hair.

"It has gotten lighter since the last time you were here." From where in my family I have no idea, because everyone has dark hair. I did too, until I messed with it last year and put some highlights in it. Now I want it to be completely dark again, so it looks like I'm going to have to fix the mistake I made. "I know." I sigh. "I like the dark brown you put in it last time, but instead of all highlights, can we go with some darker lowlights this time, too?" "Do you trust me?" She flips me around.

She has beautiful hazel eyes while mine are dull black. I think the only other resemblance we have are the wavy hair—only mine is quite natural. She seems to have done hers, and cut it so it stays as a bob length with purple highlights while mine are stubborn auburn curls which I could never seem to straighten out no matter how much I had tried—I had given up at this point.

A well deserved one. Soon I was sitting in front of the mirror with a towel wrapped around me drying my jet black hair. My hair was different from my parents though. My mother had dark chocolate hair and my father sandy hair, though dyed black you could still see the effects of his natural hair. Maybe that's what you get when you mix honey and chocolate.

"You won't have any regrets down the line." I sighed. Three hours passed... My hair was done styling, and when the hairdresser revealed the final look, I was completely stunned with my mouth wide open. Who's that gorgeous woman I just saw in the mirror? My hair was a deep chestnut shade, but the hairstylist added some highlights in a tint that resembled gold. This gave my hair a fuller and smoother appearance. Now, instead of sticking to my head like a soaked mouse, it moves smoothly whenever I want to move it, and it no longer sticks to my skull.
