My eyes fall shut, trying to keep the tears at bay. “I accepted the path of darkness for myself. I’m a vampire,” Lucas continues. “That’s what we are. That’s what’s inside of us. At the center of the chamber was a small, pulsating crystal, radiating a menacing energy. “This must be another dark artifact,” Marinetta said to herself, her eyes fixed on the crystal. “We need to destroy it before it can be used for any more rituals.” As she moved closer to the crystal, a sudden burst of dark energy erupted from it, creating a barrier of shadows around the chamber. Marinetta was thrown back by the force of the explosion, her vision momentarily obscured by swirling darkness. "My lord?" Nyxar turned his gaze toward the bleeding face of the Blood Moon. "That exact pathetic emotion is why Arcturus managed to defeat me all those centuries ago." His crimson eyes narrowed into lethal slits. "And that is precisely why I will personally erase every single trace of it from this world." He stretched out a massive, clawed hand into the air. The surrounding shadows violently swirled together, rapidly condensing into the shape of a colossal, monstrous wolf made entirely of living darkness. Its massive eyes burned brighter than a raging inferno.

Then, with purpose, I tossed it into the trash can. The sharp, hollow clink of metal hitting the bottom echoed through the quiet night. The wind brushed against me, its chill settling over my skin. I looked out over the night view, where even the dimmest stars held a faint trace of light. Then, I turned and stepped back inside, closing the door behind me. In that moment, I felt a stillness I had never known. Everything in the past had finally fallen with the stars into endless darkness. And ahead of me, there lay countless possibilities that I could explore one by one.
