“Elowen, something’s wrong!” Elowen, ever steady, was by her side in an instant, her hands gripping Mara’s shoulders, her face full of concern. “Mara? What’s wrong? Talk to me.” “I can’t see. I can’t see anything.” The words hit her like a physical blow. Blind. She was blind. And no matter how much she screamed or cried, no one could help. They tried, of course. Every healer, every divinator, every doctor who had any experience with magic came to her. They poked, prodded, did everything they could, but the blindness remained. And it was getting worse. Day by day, the blackness filled more and more of her vision, until there was nothing left.

Lucia stopped when the next moment, the entire place was filled with mist and I could not see anything aside from the white mist blocking my eyesight from seeing my surroundings. "Lucia? Are you still there? Orion?" I panicked. I haven't read about River of Flames much and I'm afraid that we would just suddenly be poisoned by this mist or there is something that will suddenly swallow us whole while we stood there. "I'm here, Ophelia. I'm fine. It's just, I'm a little uncomfortable that I can't see anything. This mist is getting to my nerves," I heard Lucia. "Orion?" I called but no one answered. So I talked to Raja in my mind.

My vision clears and I see their faces but their words are nothing but muffled echoes. Damian grabs my shoulder, shaking me. “Stay with me!” I clutch his sleeves as my vision swims and the room tilts on its side. All I see are black spots creeping in at the edges. I can't. I can't. The ground rushes up to meet me—but I never hit it because strong arms swoop in just in time before I crash. Damian. His grip is firm, cradling me against him as my body goes limp. His voice is the last thing I hear before the darkness swallows me whole. “Liliana—stay with me.”

Darkness. Complete darkness, even though the sounds came from everywhere. Even though the sounds were loud and clear, no images were constructed in Celeste's mind. The rain began to pour outside the hospital, adding more sound to Celeste's surroundings. There were many noises around her. Yet, her eyes still could only see the darkness. Maybe this was it. The ending of the Blind Bandit. She would just be grounded in her home, using the walking stick to get her around, and depended on someone to proceed with her daily life.

I am truly ready to curse him harder than thunder and he will wish he were deaf as an old log in autumn not to hear them. However, as I turn my face to look at Alfred, everything is dark. I blink a few times to make sure it is nothing more than a general blackout, but that is not the case. It is real that my vision no longer contemplates anything. Immediately, a despair rises in my heart and I feel like screaming in suffocation at having my eyes blinded. "Alfred, I can't see anything. Alfred help me, please, I've gone blind!"

A gasp tore through my throat like a poisoned arrow and I shot to my feet, blinking away the nightmare that played behind my lids only seconds ago. “So real, how could it feel so real?” I wheezed, scrambling out the bed and heaving over the porcelain bowl of the washroom sink just before my guts heaved up even more of my poisoned blood. “Goddess and seven hells, Laziel. You have finally gone mad.” I chuckled bitterly, glaring at my reflection in the dirty mirror. “Side effects of The Darkness include fever dreams, wolf maladies, hallucinations…delirium,” I muttered, recalling the words from the scribe’s handbook after the first plague of the darkness hit all those years ago.

*Pryce Winsley's POV* --- Darkness. Darkness is all I see around me. It envelops my whole being to the point that I feel like I am part of it. I don't feel anything, and I can't feel anything around me. Not even my own body, no matter how hard I try to touch anything. Where am I? Why am I unable to see? Have I not opened my eyes? I think I did. Am I in somebody's room where the lights are off? Where is everybody, anyway?

Darkness. Not absence of light. Not shadow. Something deeper. Something that felt like the world itself had forgotten how to see. The emergency lights died without warning. No flicker. No warning signal. Just— gone. For a single second— no one moved. Because movement required certainty. And in that moment— there was none. Mara couldn’t see her own hands. Couldn’t see Ethan. Couldn’t see the girl. But she could still feel— the echo of that sentence.
