I chase Ward out of the front door of the mansion and I watch him get into the passenger's side of my father's car. "I love you!" I call out before Ward has a chance to close the door behind him. "I love you too," he calls out before the door slams shut. Standing barefoot on the porch, I watch as my father's car pulls away from the mansion. A stabbing pain radiates through my chest as I watch my father's car disappear down the hill in front of the mansion. The pull of the mate bond is becoming unbearable and I can't help but wonder if Ward is feeling the same way. I suddenly regret the deal that I had made with the Moon Goddess.

When my mom answered my call, her voice trembled with emotion. “Carol, you finally called me! It’s been so many years since you’ve come home. How have you been? I heard you started a company—is it tiring…” I cut her off. “You should come pick up your daughter. She’s at the Kentridge Police Station.” “What?” I briefly explained the situation and was about to hang up when my mom burst into sobs. “Carol, you’re my real daughter. We’ve already disowned Leila. I don’t want to bring her back—I want to bring you home. Please, would you come home?”

The violin music sounded distant now and my ears were ringing. I needed air. My father was still talking. He spoke about fate, about the Moon Goddess, about how happy he was and how he’d marry her and she’s the future Luna. I couldn’t focus, all I saw was Athena standing beside my father as his mate.

She was seen by the Etholians but not by the other clans. She gulped when her heart started pounding. She turned to look at her mother. "Do you love father?" She asked. Queen Martina was surprised by her sudden question. But she knew her daughter was scared so she smiled at her and then squeezed her hands. "I love your father. Yes, he was a gift from the Moon Goddess, but I have never doubted my heart. You might think it was because of the mating pull, but I never thought of that. Because if I was born like you, I will still choose your father over any man in this world." Her mother answered.

My head snapped in his direction and I instantly gasped, realizing the creature had gotten too close to me already. “You are the last daughter of the Moon,” it muttered so close to my ear, I could feel the cold breath. My body froze as I tried to ponder the words. What did the daughter of the Moon mean? I had never heard about such a thing, no one in my life had ever mentioned anything even briefly close to that. “Huh?” Was the only sound I could make, probably looking as stupid as I felt.

“But you won’t.” His hand moved behind his waistband, and for a terrifying moment, I thought he was reaching for a gun. Instead, he crossed his arms and leaned back slightly, a slow smile spreading across his face that sent chills down my spine. “Impressive. You’re not scared. You’d make a good wife, Artemis, goddess of the moon.” The name hit me hard. Only my mother called me that. Tears welled in my eyes, and I blinked furiously to hold them back, but it was too late. The grief I had buried deep inside me surged to the surface.

Luna was waiting for Arthur but when he didn't come back she decided to go out and check on him, once she reached the hallway, she found Arthur standing there and staring at a girl who looked weak and scared standing in the living room, Luna frowned and walked towards Arthur. Arthur didn't acknowledge Luna's approach, his attention solely focused on the girl before him. Luna reached his side and frowned at the sight of the trembling girl. "Arthur, who is this?" she asked, her voice soft with concern. Arthur turned to face Luna, his expression unreadable. "This is Matthew's daughter," Arthur said, his voice flat. The scene changes once more, this time we are standing by a lake or something that looks like it anyway and I can see the fullmoon is huge and close to where ever we are and Knight and Artemis standing next to each other and the rest of the lycans standing around them waiting for something to happen when Luna suddenly walks towards them. "Artemis, my daughter." She says and I look towards Artemis that still have sad eyes and Knight have bent the knee along with the rest of the pack.
