ARIEL The uniform hung on the back of the door like a accusation. I'd been staring at it for an hour. It was navy blue. It looked regal. I reached out, touched the fabric. It was soft, well-made and very expensive. The kind of uniform preppy rich school kids wore to their expensive private schools. When I was Evie's age, I'd worn dresses that my mother picked out, stiff and uncomfortable clothes. I'd sat in classrooms with other children who looked at me like I was something strange.
