“Lyra.” I couldn’t answer. My whole body was shaking. Somewhere far away, I knew Cassian would have felt it too. Not the truth. Only the break. Only the sharp, false shock of a bond snapping into death. At that same moment, miles away, Cassian stopped cold in Selene’s doorway. His face drained. One hand flew to his chest. For a single brutal second, the mate bond turned into a blade and drove straight through him. Then it was gone.

Tony smirks down at me, all powerless and pretty and blue and wonderful. “I think I’m going to stick with this one,” I say, pointing at my boyfriend with my thumb. “He’s better looking.” Death goes still for a moment. Zach sent two thin blades of wind that sliced the matted ground as they traveled. Death blocked the blades with his arms. Death started running towards Zach who began launching blade after blade of wind. He avoided most and blocked the ones he couldn't. Right as he was about to grab Zach a strong gust blew the two of them apart. Zach now had his back to the stone wall, meanwhile, Death was standing in the center of the arena.

If it ever did, he would dismiss it as a mere gossip. Marcus continued staring through the windows as the greenery rushed past them, while he turned back inwardly to something that was troubling his soul. His mind told him he had made a mistake.
