Before she could react, a dart whizzed through the air, its tip glinting in the moonlight, and struck her in the neck. Sam gasped, her hand flying to the dart, her fingers trembling as she yanked it free. The world tilted, her vision blurring, and she stumbled, her knees buckling as a wave of dizziness crashed over her. “No,” she growled, her voice slurring, her claws extending as she fought to stay upright. But the tranquilizer was fast, its poison seeping into her blood, and she fell to her knees, the shale biting into her skin.
