After I was done, I quickly returned to my hostel to open up my box of bottled water. This was the big surprise I prepared for everyone. I wanted to see if they could survive the apocalypse with whatever was in the box, which was more than twenty bottles of hot sauce.

I remembered the first day of the apocalypse when cities turned into hell on earth as the streets filled with screams and blood. I remembered the countless deaths I'd seen over the last three years. The elderly, the children, my comrades, and those strangers. I remembered the people who were killed by their loved ones because of infection, and those who turned into zombies in the depths of despair. "I'll do it," I said. Uriah was so ecstatic that he almost jumped out of his chair. Iris merely nodded, as if she had expected my answer all along. In the days that followed, I became the research center's most special "guest".

Evelyn opened her mouth. Nothing came out. What was she supposed to say? You abandoned me to die three months from now? Instead, as she asked quietly, “What time is it?” He blinked at the question. “Uh… almost seven.” Seven in the morning. Three months before the apocalypse. Outside the apartment window, traffic moved normally through wet streets. Somewhere downstairs, someone laughed. A car horn sounded faintly in the distance. The world hadn’t ended yet. But it would. Evelyn wrapped her arms tightly around herself.

After my death, he threw my and my daughter's corpses into the wilderness to be devoured by hungry wolves. He then ceremoniously married Briar, who was five months pregnant. The throne itself watched in cold silence, a looming silhouette of obsidian and teeth, its carved faces slick with demon blood. Screams tore through the palace as demons tried to scatter, only for Apollo to fall upon them like a beast unchained. One tried to shift into smoke. Apollo’s barbed tail lashed through it, solidifying the cloud long enough for him to seize it and crush it into oblivion. Another attempted to fly. Apollo leapt—wings unfurling with a crack of air—caught the demon by the leg and slammed him into the ground hard enough to send shockwaves through the floor.
