“Not fucking creepy at all.” Each page held the name of different demons, Lucifer, Mammon, Asmodeus, Satan, Beelzebub, Leviathan, Belphegor, and Chaos. Each one had a short description alongside a sketched photo of the demon themself and a symbol. I’d read through each one, finally landing on Chaos. He looked different than the rest of the sketches, as if he were a last minute add to the book. The drawing of him was smeared, as if the artist rushed. His symbol was different. Less intricate than the others.

Also referred to as the Demon's book, it was a massive tome, written thirty years ago by a priest who was said to have made a deal with the Devil to finish it. According to legend, the priest had been sentenced to be walled-up alive as punishment for breaking his vows. He promised the church that if they let him live, he would write a book that would contain all human knowledge - in a single day. To fulfill this promise, the priest sold his soul to the demon. The manuscript was extremely long, it appears to have been written by just one person over a relatively short period and covered a spell that only the supernatural could only open the book. I had this unsettling feeling that they were going to attack, but where, when and who were uncertain. When I got home, I ran over to an old, Victorian cabinet that was passed down through the generations in my family. It was cherry oak and curved out in the middle; the Victorian designs were chipped but didn’t deny that it was a formidable antique. Some pages slipped while they were exchanging. Venessa reads the title, “The forbidden demon”. It’s written weirdly as if the motto of doing so is to prevent someone from reading this book. But it’s weird anyway! Aren’t all demon’s forbidden? Then why is this one specified differently? She opens the book and starts going through it. There are some vivid gore images on some pages that probably refer to a ritual. The words are written in some kind of ancient language which is out of Venessa’s league. So she almost gives up on it when she sees a page in the middle of the book. It catches her eyes since it doesn’t have any dirty pictures.

The only way demons could be killed was if they were stabbed in the heart with a weapon that had been soaked in a holy lake for thirty days.

It belonged to another witch before her death, and Tabatha gave it to me since I didn’t come from a long line of witches who had books to pass down generation to generation. There’s nothing in my book about demons made up of rats. There’s not much in my book about demons in general. Most of the information about demons was added by me, and I’ve never so much as heard of a demon bursting apart into dead rats. What I need to do is go to the library at the Academy and go through every single book about demons and black magic I can find.
