Chapter 5 – Mother’s Darkness Mother sat in her favorite armchair, the soft afternoon light filtering through the lace curtains. The house was quiet, too quiet, each corner echoing memories of laughter, arguments, and whispered secrets. Yet now, the silence was heavy, pressing down on her chest. Her once vibrant energy, the pillar that had held the family together through loss and hardship, was eroding under the weight of depression.

"Don't insult me by pretending you don't know what it is, Adrian. These aren't healing me. They're breaking me down. Making me weak so I can't leave, can't think, can't reach out to anyone. You've been drugging me." He set the bottle down carefully, and sat on the edge of the bed. His hand reached for mine, but I yanked it back. "Sarah, you're not thinking clearly. Depression… it's making you paranoid. The nurse and I have only been following doctor's orders. This is a specialized treatment for severe cases like yours. To help you rest, to rebuild…"

A wound in the back of your mind that can’t be touched because it hurts too much. It’s always there and never goes away. Constant pain, a constant reminder. Every thought is a battle, every breath is a war, and you will lose on both fronts if you give it a chance.

CLINT’s POV I slumped onto the barstool, my back hunched over, and my head hung low. My hands shook slightly as I picked up the wine glass, the deep red liquid sloshing around inside. I brought the glass to my lips and chugged the wine down, hoping the alcohol would take away the crushing weight of my depression.

Amber spoke with seriousness, "I am fucking devastated, so devastated, destroyed and broken and dead from inside that I have become numb. I don;t have anymore tears left to cry, I don't have energy to be sad, I don't have the strength to endure depression, I have became numb to everything. I am smiling because I can't cry anymore, my tears have all dried up, I am not sitting in a corner and staring outside the window like a depressed soul that I am is because I have done that for a lot of years and I am done.
