Do Not Open This Book Novels & Stories

I’ve cornered him now. “I don’t,” he shrugged, answering quite honestly. “I won’t know what is true or not, since there’s no one that can open that book. Trust me, I’ve tried. We’ve all tried, but it’s practically impossible to.” I blinked once again, not quite sure how to take things. I hope that the book contained answers and I’m sure it does, the only problem now was to open it and him saying it cannot be opened really pulled me in for a reality check, to be honest.

Before I could stop myself, my eyes immediately shifted toward the book in Rosie's hands. "Oh." For some reason, that single word felt strange coming out of my mouth. Leon had always been protective of his books. Not that he never lent them to people. He just... rarely did. "Apparently he really likes this one," Rosie continued. "Yeah, I do," Leon said. A small smile appeared on his face. For some reason, seeing that smile while he talked about giving Rosie one of his favorite books made something uncomfortable twist inside my chest. It wasn't anger. And it definitely wasn't jealousy.

My birth wasn't mentioned, the same as my death. When I was on the verge of giving up on reading, I took a last glance at the book and sighed. I closed the book, stood up, and got ready to sleep. Then, the book opened itself. It was a moment of 'didn't I close this book?' I paced around at short distances, took note of the page and closed it again. I glared at the book till I was on my bed and the book never opened - maybe it is my illusion.

I closed my eyes, about to jump off a building, when an ill-timed phone ringtone blared. On the other end of the phone came a voice that I couldn't be more familiar with. It was my own voice. "Don't jump, Jack Sterling."

~IVY~ I know I should wait till morning to open the book,but I just can't seem to wait. It's like being desperate to open your gift except this isn't a gift. It was rightfully stolen and what's written in it, can make or break me. Karl and Damon made me assure that I won’t open the book without them. But it's literally right there staring at me. My curiosity is getting the better of me. I'll have to lie and pretend I didn't open it.

He just would not touch the book. "No. I will not touch that book. Even if I touch it, I do not think I will be able to open it." He finally reaches for the book and true to his word, he could not open it. "What? I have been reading through that book! How can it be sealed as if it is not a book when you hold it?" I am truly puzzled.

He flipped over the front of the book to see the title. It was Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot. “Well, that’s fitting,” B laughed and closed the book. He fell deeper into the recesses of the chair. He brought the glasses up to his face and thought, If this is what an estate man does, then let me be an estate man for just a couple of minutes while the whiskey does its work. B let Dostoyevksy’s words run through his mind like a new mantra — it’s life that matters… the process of discovering… the everlasting and perpetual process… — and slid the glasses onto his face.

“You should go… now… Go to the lake… I need to… rest.” I clearly didn't have enough faith because a violent surge of restlessness washed over me. “Please, I need to know how to break the blood spell.” She didn't answer. She just smiled faintly, as if she had finally found true peace. Her eyes closed, and her body fell into light dust that quickly vanished into the air. I gasped, staring at the now-empty sofa. At the end of the corridor behind me, the front door burst open, as if the house wanted to tell me I should leave. I looked at the old parchment in my hand, rose to my feet, and hurried out.

This time, I absolutely wouldn't miss out on this academic opportunity. Fearing I'd be distracted while studying, I turned my phone off completely. By the time I was done, it was already 9:00 pm. It was time to sleep. I still hadn't turned my phone back on, so I washed up and went to bed. The next day, after getting ready, I opened the door, about to head out to the library, only to find Chris waiting outside. His hair was slightly messy, and the exhaustion in his eyes was evident. It looked like he hadn't slept in days.
