“Mum,” Henry looked up from the hug, his tiny eyes grinning into mine. “Dad got an urgent call to return to work after he dropped us.”
Annabella snapped, biting into her snack, eyes sparkling.
Henry shot her a look. “I should be the one to answer that, not you.”
“But I did, brother,” Annabella said, chewing fast and grinning in-between.
“Whatever.” Henry looked from her to me, his slight frown, which I knew didn’t get to his tiny heart, replaced with a small smile and an innocent warmth that only children have.
