I couldn't afford to go. I switched off the screen and pulled myself back into the dark. Whatever happiness belonged to normal college students, it wasn't mine to have. I had a dream that night. Dad, a man I'd only ever seen in financial magazines, stood over Mom after knocking her to the ground. "Diane Sutherland, you and that hick son of yours are nothing but a couple of freeloaders, always crawling back with your hands out."

Just the storm outside and the low growl of a blacked-out SUV idling at the emergency entrance. Rain lashed the windows as we climbed the coast road. The university gates appeared through the downpour—wrought iron twisted into roses and bats, glowing faintly crimson against the black cliffs. Beyond them, BludHeaven rose like a cathedral someone had carved out of midnight: spires, arched windows, stone walls that looked old enough to remember when vampires still ruled the night unchallenged. The driver glanced at me in the rearview mirror. “Welcome to BludHeaven, Nico Black. Try not to die on the first night. The queens hate when their new toys break too soon.”

“There’ve been whispers. Nothing solid. Just… rumors. There was one I’d heard about a grave.” My brow arched. “A grave?” “Yes. An empty one. They said two corpses lay on either side, drained dry. Whoever stumbled on it swore it was linked to Dracula himself.” I rolled my eyes so hard it hurt. “Dracula? Really? That’s the story floating around? Most of those tales are campfire trash meant to spook kids.” Her frown deepened, though a flicker of curiosity lingered in her gaze. “Maybe. I’ve never seen a vampire myself. Tell me the truth are they trying to spark another war?”

Didn’t pull away. She looked down at my hand for a second, then back at me, steady-eyed. That was enough. More than enough. She was still with me. “You’re not allowed to have a bunch of wives,” Natalie blurted out, completely out of nowhere. I blinked. “What?” “Dracula,” she said, like it was obvious. “He had wives—three of them—in that Van Helsing movie.” We both burst out laughing. Leave it to her to reference vampire pop culture in the middle of our reality check. This wasn’t a movie—but somehow, Natalie always managed to bring the absurd into perspective.

Maybe they'll back out from their plan. "Ugh, come on, Blair! Make it two, and that's the final. BE THERE OR BE THERE!" Drea asserted and was about to enter her car, annoyed. "Alright, I'll be there at four. Buh-bye!" I affirmed and skipped to my baby. "BLAIR!!" They both exclaimed. And I just laughed at them while waving them goodbye. Alright, tomorrow at ten. --- As I arrived home, I went to the fridge and drank blood. I often drink blood now because every night I need to be a vampire, and you know why. I just need a lot of energy.

"Do you know them?" Dante asked Dae in an emotionless tone reading papers of business. "No, I don't. " Dae answered. "The big man came to get the little one and they wanted to give me some...companion." "Fine. Do you like it, the companion?" "..." Without having an answer, Dante didn't ask more and continued to mind his own business. The little Dae looked out the window counting the raindrops. It seemed that he was enjoying more the silence.

I heard a crack, like somebody misstepped and broke a twig on the ground. In fear I leapt out of the pool and heard a snarl come from behind me. Now I could smell something. It smelled like blood, sweat, mud, and grease. I was suddenly on the ground and there was a full grown adult wolf on top of me, her claws digging into my flesh. I cried out, terrified and in pain.

He already knows what is wrong but he still needs to confirm. He studied the young woman's wounds. There are scratches around her arms and legs. Probably from the dragging by her predators. Jones is a vampire but after years of practicing self-control, he managed to make his senses devoid of any scent. If his guess was true, then this woman's blood wouldn't affect him no matter how addictive her blood is.

EPISODE 3 I do not need much sleep, two hours at most, which I usually take when the sun is at its brightest. Sunlight does affect me, although it is not the mortal enemy Bram Stoker imagined in his tale of Count Dracula. I read the novel Dracula when it first came out, in ten minutes. I have a photographic memory with a hundred percent comprehension. I found the book delicious. Unknown to Mr. Stoker, he got to meet a real vampire when I paid him a visit one dreary English evening in the year 1899. I was very sweet to him. I asked him to autograph my book and gave him a big kiss before I left. I almost drank some of his blood, I was tempted, but I thought it would have ruined any chance he w
