His gaze dropped for a moment, landing on the open book lying next to me on the bed. Damien chuckled softly, his laughter rich and deep like a quiet storm rolling in.
“That book,” he remarked, shaking his head, “is full of half-truths. Only a handful of those things have any basis in reality.”
“Really?” I countered, my curiosity piqued despite myself. Sliding off the bed, I picked up the book and held it in my palm, examining its worn cover as if the answers to the universe might suddenly reveal themselves.
