My little cat had learned how to scheme. He nodded. “Actually, my family and I aren’t on good terms. So I don’t know much about their business.” However, the small smile on my lips didn’t last long. It disappeared the moment Mila spoke. “Levi is an artist,” she said, her tone filled with admiration and pride. “He paints beautifully. He drew some pictures of me on the island.” Then she pulled her phone out of her purse and flipped through her photos. When she turned the screen to show the drawings, my heart tightened.

I had a splendid dream of sitting on a cliff. The moon shone ten times brighter than it ever did on any other night, and beside me was the most beautiful being, a werewolf in his human form, having only my red shawl spread across his groin. One of his hands rested on top of mine, was so warm, and I stared at his face illuminated by the moon's sliver light. Luna looked up and saw Levi's wealthy father storming toward her, his face twisted with anger. "Luna Ackerman, how dare you let my son take the blame for you? I'll kill you!" Luna was dragged into the prison by several burly men, where she finally saw a haggard Levi. The moment he spotted her, he rushed straight into her arms.

Her eyes looked too big, haunted by a past she couldn't reach. A soft knock on the double doors broke the silence. Lily tensed, pulling the lapels of the robe tighter around her throat. "Come in." The door opened, but it wasn't Gideon. It was Levi. He had discarded his suit jacket and tie. The top two buttons of his crisp white shirt were undone, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing strong, tan wrists. He carried a leather-bound folder in one hand. Without his formal armor, he looked less like a corporate deity and more like a dangerous man relaxing in his own territory.

She lit one, inhaled, let the smoke curl upward into the heavy dusk. Across the gap, Levi’s balcony door slid open. Shirtless again, sweat still gleaming on his chest and stomach from whatever workout he’d just finished. Black basketball shorts hung low on narrow hips, the waistband of dark boxer briefs visible above them. A fresh tattoo wrapped his left forearm—something sharp and geometric, still red at the edges. He leaned on his railing, forearms braced, and met her eyes without flinching. “Evening,” he said. Voice rough from disuse or smoke or both.

"You keep your eye on him, Marina. I think there is something special about him. I can't say what it is but I just feel it." She left the room leaving Chad and me to stare at one another over her odd behavior. He shrugged his shoulders and shook his head a little, "Well goodnight, Marina. Remember come get us if you need help." "I will, Chad. Goodnight." I sat down on the edge of the sofa and took my first good look at Levi. From the looks of things he appeared to be part Native American. Even though he was pale I could see that his complexion was naturally dark. I saw him kicking the air, punching the walls, saw him roar however his sound couldn’t reach me. I just sat there in silence watching him calm the ire down and he entered inside sitting next to me, ordering his men to drive off. My hands were quaking from dread, I just shot him… I shot Archie and while I thought he was robust; he was nothing compared to the beast Levi was. Archie forever wanted to be the hero, however Levi, he wasn’t ashamed of the villain he was. Levi sighed plentiful times, I could tell he was angry, his green eyes had turned red bloodshot and the veins popping out didn’t seem to go back to normal.

Up close, he didn’t look so much older, but more finished, like someone had sanded away all the softness until only intent and bone were left. He leaned down, voice soft. “You needed it.” For a second, the world was only his breath and the dark scent of his coat. Then the moment snapped—Derek appeared, clipboard in hand, eyebrows furrowed to maximum. “Everything cool out here?” Derek said, eyeing Levi like he was an active shooter. Levi didn’t even look at him. “Ava’s leaving early,” he said, flat as fact. Derek bristled. “She just got here. I need her for closing.”

Levi, gazing out the window with a now relaxed expression, finally spoke as the sedan came to a stop in front of the mansion. "Find that guy and bring him to me, alive." Upon hearing the command, Xavier turned around, his face hinting his confusion about whom to bring. “The Baker?” Xavier asked gruffly. Suddenly, Levi's green eyes gleamed, turning red almost instantly. “The dude from his post cards, you idiot, Finn!” He growled, immediately neutralising his expression and a tiny figure rushed toward him. “Daddy! Daddy!” Lily, his four-year-old daughter, launched herself into his arms, squealing as he lifted her effortlessly.

I nodded in response and answered, "Yes, I am." The two of them looked quite satisfied with my answer. Levi continued, "You do look beautiful just like he described. I thought he was bragging about you, but we were wrong…" Before Levi finishes, "Didn't I ask you to leave already? Why are you still here?" A voice came from behind me. All of us turned around and saw Mr Ackerman in the doorway.
