It's a big day for me and I want you to be with me." She smiled softly before walking away. He felt his face burn a little but didn't show any further reactions. "How long is this act gonna go?" Aaron said in an irritated tone. "You're back!" Levi said cheerfully to tease him. Aaron glared at him but in return Levi just laughed.

She turned back to dishing the croissants and fruit smoothie which I had abandoned since Levi's arrival. Levi took some steps backwards with his hands in the air as if he had just been caught red-handed committing a crime. The muscles on his arms were tanned and well-toned and he seemed to be satisfied by flaunting it. He put them down and gave a sombre look. He looked sincere now and the mischievous glint in his brown eyes disappeared. "Alright, Alright. Wrong introduction." He spurted. "-let's start again." He gave me a huge smirk.

I just wished he’d stop surprising me with the words that tumbled out of his mouth. “You’re treating him like a dog.” “Save it if you’ve got nothing kind to say.” I didn’t look at Yakov—kept my eyes on Levi’s face, where a small smile was starting to form. Levi laughed then, a real sound, light and easy. I laughed too, and when I finally turned to Yakov, my stomach flipped. His jacket was twisted on his shoulders, his shirt wrinkled, and there was a smear of red lipstick on the corner of his mouth—dark as wine, bright as a wound.

Between being accused of participating in my attempted abduction and then being taken himself, I’m actually impressed at how well he’s doing, all things considered. “I did, thank you Amber,” he tells me with a gentle smile, “I’m just so glad that Levi and I have finally cleared the air, that I was able to relax for the first time in days. It was wonderful.” “Well, that, and the fact that you were attacked by a lunatic probably had something to do with it,” Levi says as he pours more coffee for both of us, “I mean, that‘s definitely got to wear a person out.” “Indeed,” he says wryly, “It definitely wasn’t the type of excitement I was hoping for on Saturday night.”
