Dreaming Walking Barefoot Novels & Stories

It was elegant and beautiful but it made me look like I belonged in this castle of monsters. I didn't have shoes. My boots were soaked and caked in mud. So, I went barefoot. I checked the phone one last time. 6:58 PM. I opened the bedroom door. The hallway was empty. I could hear the faint clink of silverware coming from downstairs. I walked to the staircase. The marble was cold under my bare feet. Every step I took felt heavy, like I was wading through deep water. Left foot. Right foot. Breathe.

But was I dreaming? I took a huge gulp of air and padded down the stairs barefooted. The idea of wearing shoes was the last on my mind since I was on a mission to find the bathroom and get ready for the workshop, or walk around this place and see whether I am dreaming or not. The stairs seemed to stretch forever until I eventually came to a clear landing.

But standing here now made it look almost modest. As I admired the scale of it, reality tugged me back, people passing by had started to stare. It didn’t take long for me to realize why. I glanced down at my feet. My shoes were dangling from my hand, and I stood there barefoot on the polished stone. Earlier, on my mad dash across the street, I’d broken my toenail badly. The pain had been so sharp it made me limp, and the only thing that felt bearable was to take the heels off entirely. But now, about to walk into a company like this, I knew showing up barefoot was worse than limping.

The house we lived in had a floor made up of wood, so you could easily hear if someone was walking on it. I tried to get my eyes to open but I was a bit frightened that I couldn’t. I remember even waving my arms so that I could tell if there was someone there with me or not. What I saw in the dream was a staff and sandals much like what the saints wore, and whoever was wearing it went closer to my side of the bed, near my head. What I apparently did was that I stood from the bed, knelt, and prayed. I asked him if he was going to take Cindy, my sister-in-law.

" I will want to personally speak to you after this, alone." "She is definitely suspicious of you." Conner whispers when she is not in earshot anymore. My eyes still on the evil bitch I nodded. "Aye." If she would kill me today I could only hope I would go out with a bang. It would suck to die like the poor man a few minutes ago. Rȗҽ Walking barefoot and feeling dirt beneath one's foot is not at all pleasing. I fight the urge to squirm everytime I feel a dead leaf crumble beneath my foot. I hated the feeling.

Just as this thought crossed my mind, rain began to pour down on me. As the ground became slippery, walking in my heels grew increasingly difficult. Sighing, I stooped down and took off my shoes, electing to carry them and walk in my bare feet. I prayed that I would reach my car soon so that I could crank up the heater and have some semblance of warmth.

I heard myself say “Since you’re not going to be accepted by your people, you can be useful.” “It’s not that simple, they would try to kill me and as a dreamer I get the most painful death” “I thought dreamers are immortal” I said “With our powers we are but once they get drained, we are just like any other person on both planes” “I don’t think calling for help is working because I’ve been trying to call for help since but I don’t feel anything” I said with my voice shaking with fear “I really don’t want to spend my whole life here.”

I know soon those moans will turn to screams. We walk side by side across the dock, eerily lit up by huge yellow lights. I stumble in an attempt to keep up with Andres' long strides and wince as I stub my toe. The ballet flats I'd chosen to wear had been lost when I jumped in the water. My feet are now bare and my dark blue hooded sweatshirt and thin white trousers are thoroughly soaked.

I needed coffee, and I was probably still sleeping, and all of this was in my head. I got out of bed and took my phone from the nightstand then immediately dialed Lily’s number. It rang once, twice, then her voice came from the other side. “Zane?” “Lily, I think I’ve started sleepwalking.” “Wait, what?” “Yeah. I really hope it’s not what I’m thinking, because I had a dream where I was in the woods, and when I woke up there were muddy footprints on my room floor.” There was silence for a moment.

"I can't walk in these anymore. They're heavy and my heel is bleeding." Vane rubbed his face with both hands like he was trying to wipe away the exhaustion. "Just walk barefoot then. The concrete's clean." "I'm not walking barefoot in a public parking garage," I snapped, and I could feel the tears threatening to spill over. Not because I was scared of germs or whatever. I was just so tired. Bone tired. Soul tired. The kind of tired where your brain stops working and every little thing feels like the end of the world.
