I wanted to believe him, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t that simple.
And as I drifted off to sleep, a new vision came to me, sharper and more vivid than before. Flames consumed the pack house, the heat suffocating. Shadows danced in the corners, whispering my name. And at the center of it all was Esther, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
“This is only the beginning,” she said, her voice echoing in my head.
I woke with a start, my heart pounding. Jake was still asleep beside me, his breathing steady. I placed a hand on my stomach, feeling the faint flutter of life beneath my palm.
