For once in her life, she wasn’t being mistaken for some man-hungry flirt. She glanced at the tall, poised man in front of her, her heart skipping for no good reason. There was something weirdly familiar about this whole scene, like déjà vu, like she’d lived it before. Her head throbbed with the effort to remember, but nothing came. So she shook her head, muttered, “It’s getting late,” and practically bolted. That night, Esther had a long, twisted dream. She dreamed she was fifteen again.
