I went from walking next to Al, and Amber to falling far behind, dragging my blood-splattered body along the road following two strangers on a journey to I don't know where and I am too tired to give a damn. Because I have to be honest with myself and the truth is... I would give anything to live and not go back inside of a coffin. And I feel bad somehow because a part of me knows I am using them for protection from W.I.K.D... The police, rogue werewolves... My self. I don't know them— Amber and Al, and clearly, they didn't know me either.

Perhaps it's effect is only mild. She poured a little of the blood in an empty glass she found on the table, then she added just a little ash and stirred. She frowned when nothing happened. Was the book wrong? If the book was wrong, the book wouldn't be restricted. She then added a little more ash, and the the blood began to foam. Interesting. She watched it closely, taking note of every single change. By the time the blood stopped foaming, it had turned black. She smiled. Now she wondered if this would work on the royal vampires. If only she could get their blood.

Dabria sneered at Master Austin angrily. She had read a lot about the Ambrosias in the books Adrian had left behind. Since Dabria was the only one who had the access to those books, she took full advantage to read them all thoroughly. "You fucking dared to come to my territory and hurt my people. You created a bloodbath here. I swear on the dead body of Adrian Cerberus that I will paint Eve's garden with your blood." Dabria sneered at the vampire master.

It was completely dry, its thick leather cover pristine, its pages white and unblemished by blood or ink. ​But as Elara reached out a trembling hand to pick up the book, the headlights of the white sedan suddenly flickered and died, plunging the highway into a deep, absolute darkness. ​The quiet of the forest was broken not by the sound of crickets or rain, but by a slow, heavy, and terrifyingly familiar sound that echoed from the dashboard inside the dark car.

A low growl echoes from his throat and he snaps back inside. A minute later a grey sedan spins into the side of the building, Brian screams at us from the drivers seat. "Get in. Fucking move." Dyl covers me with his body and rushes towards the car. I'm inside and strapped in before I can count to three. Brian floors it. I hear the familiar sound of rubber burning against tar. And the three of us speed away from the Inn I grip the two front seats, steadying myself as Brian drives the mom car like its a fucking V8 racer.

Lucious looks at me for a second longer, before starting the car up, backing out the driveway. As Lucious drive through the streets of the pack, heading towards the main road that leads out of the pack territory. I swallow the lump in my throat as I look around at the thick snowy trees that line both sides of the road, feeling father presences grow stronger the further we drive. I look ahead, seeing wolves standing there at the borders of the pack's land as a black SUV drives up, knowing that's father. Once Lucious stop the car and get out, I take in a breath, trying to calm my nerves. I get out of the car and head over to the front with Lucious.

With a huff I set the book down and I move to go answer the door. The book I was reading had been an enemies-to-lovers romance and oh-my-gosh it was spicy. I feel particularly bothered as I answer the door and it doesn’t help when I found all three of the attractive Ambrose brothers on the other side of it. I rise an eyebrow and I can’t help but look towards Blade, the man that’s quieter but has such an intensity that it draws me in more than any other. Adam is closest to me and he grumbles as he asks, “Can we come in?”

The drive to the mountains was a descent into a different kind of darkness. As the city lights faded into the rear-view mirror, replaced by the oppressive, towering silhouettes of ancient pines, the air inside the SUV grew cold. Laredo didn’t speak. He drove with a terrifying, rhythmic precision, his large hands steady on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Every time he shifted gears, his arm would brush against my knee—a deliberate, territorial spark that reminded me I was no longer a guest in his life, but a captive.

CHAPTER SIXTY-SEVEN Irina's POV I was scared and terrified. My whole body trembled with fear. But I had to enter the car. I had no choice. Not if I wanted Dimitri to stay safe. I climbed into the passenger seat slowly. My legs felt weak beneath me. Alexei got into the driver's seat. He started the engine immediately. The car roared to life. We began moving down the long driveway away from the estate. "Mikhail would never forgive you this time," I said quietly.

The neighborhood was loud, the space was tight, and with the older couple and the children crammed in together, their quality of life plummeted. Diane's resentment grew worse by the day, and her clashes with Lisa became constant. After one particularly vicious argument, she packed her bags and demanded Brandon drive her back to his hometown. Brandon's work suffered too. Word was that his poor performance lately cost him a major promotion. Lisa aged rapidly under the strain. She was forced to budget every dollar, drive the kids to and from a school that was now much farther away, and handle all the mundane burdens of daily life that I once shouldered for her.
