Beauty & the Alpha
The animal saw the patch of green it sought, and came closer.
It was the Alpha who moved first, jumping over the rock and sinking his teeth into the deer’s ribcage. The deer cried as if he was pleased to finally meet his end, a defeated cry, and didn’t put up a fight. He just laid there, closing its eyes and allowing the Alpha’s teeth to bite into it until it couldn’t breathe anymore. Mateo had his legs on either side of the deer, making sure he extracted life from it before turning his face to me. The deer’s bright red blood dripped from Mateo’s mouth, and he beckoned me over with a small nod.
