With the blessing of my husband, Alpha King Jason, I turned to face the sea of determined faces before me. Among them stood Paul Biansky, whose loyalty had been tested by blood; Gamma Thorne, whose wisdom was as unyielding as the mountains; my son Eden, young yet formidable with the scepter of convergence in his grasp; and Elara Windrider, her understanding of the enemy as deep as the roots of the earth.

But Kael was furious—a mate defending his bond. He landed a punch to Dren’s jaw that sent the rogue crashing into a tree. But Dren stood, wiping blood from his mouth. “You can’t kill me,” he taunted. “Not before the bond completes.” “She’s not yours!” “She will be.” --- But then… A glow shimmered behind Dren. Luna. She stepped into the clearing like a goddess of war—her skin glowing, her eyes silver fire. Her power surged in waves, cracking the earth beneath her.

“The Duskbane line stands. The bloodline is healed. My name is Wren Duskbane. And I’m not done.” Draven came to my side. Took my bleeding hand. “Neither am I.”

His presence seemed unexpected yet oddly comforting in this foreboding place. "Greetings, travelers," he said, his voice smooth and inviting. "I am Darius, from the Moonshadow Pack. I sensed your arrival and your quest to rescue Alpha Damien." His words resonated with hope, and for a moment, we allowed ourselves to believe that we had found an ally in our darkest hour. The weariness of our journey momentarily lifted, replaced by cautious optimism. Darius continued, his voice carrying a note of empathy. "I too have lost a pack member to these rogues. I offer my assistance to help you free Alpha Damien. Together, we can bring justice to those who have taken our loved ones."

A growl rippled through the line. “This is our home,” I continued, my voice growing louder, steadier. “Our families. Our pack. That thing in the mist? That is not our Alpha. That is not our blood. I am your Luna. Damon is your Alpha. And we are still standing. We are all going to stand, we are all going to fight until the very end of this, no matter what is to happen.” I pointed to the creatures writhing at the treeline.

“Nope. Not a single one.” He sighs dramatically, placing a reassuring hand back on my shoulder, and points them out one by one, giving a quick run-down. “Alright. That miserable-looking one there is Elder Corvin—the one who permanently looks like he swallowed a whole, unripe lemon. Next to him is the perpetually silent Elder Theon. Then that younger-looking one, with the sharp, hawk-like eyes, that’s Darius. The silver-haired woman beside him is Lyra, the brunette with the judging eyes is Selene, and the one with the dark hair and the consistently sharper tongue is Mira.”

Maybe it has. Rowan stands off to the side, his arms crossed and watching me with the stillness of an Alpha who’s seen too many battles to flinch. He actually has... The Dremari hovers nearby, more shadow than form, coiling like smoke in the corners of my vision and then there’s Elen, the Windborne boy, who looks more like a shard of sky than flesh and bone. He sits cross-legged on a rock, his silver-blue hair falling in his eyes... eyes that hold entire thunderstorms.

The seventh morning after returning from the tomb. Luna stood before the entrance of the tomb. This time she did not bring three thousand. Cain. Rex. Elias. Silas. Aurelius. Sylvan. Dorian. Seven people. The grey wolf crouched on the outermost snow dune. Its amber eyes locked onto the stone door through the fine snow. Dorian's drones fanned out across the sky above the tomb. In the encrypted channel, every person's vital signs were jumping.
