Alexander remembered thinking, on the first night, watching Elijah from across a hotel bar: warm. He'd been right about that. He'd underestimated what it meant. Between tables, Elijah came back to the bar. He leaned against the counter on the floor side—not sitting, still working, still scanning the room for the thousand small signals that told him who needed what.
