Avery sat down on the plush carpet beside her daughter, taking the crayon the little girl handed her. On the drawing paper, Dorothea had sketched the white peacock. The eyespots on its tail were drawn disproportionately large, crowded tightly against one another, covering the page. Outside the window, the peacock suddenly threw back its head and let out a sharp, piercing cry—a harsh, desolate sound that dragged through the air, shattering the morning silence.

I wasn’t looking at him directly, but I was watching him through my peripheral vision. “Once upon a time, in a peaceful village nestled between rolling hills, there was a little owl named Oliver.” I took a short pause to kiss Elon on top of his head. “Oliver wasn’t like the other owls. While most of them preferred to sleep during the day and fly at night, Oliver loved the quiet, magical time just before the moon rose.” Elon looked at the pictures as I read the story. She spotted him perched on the roof of Grandmother Alma's house. The front door of the house creaked open and out poked Alma.

To get this straight...I drew something which almost seemed to look like an eagle...it had wings so long that it occupied the entire space of the paper. The wings had symbols that I saw as designs. I made its eyes wide like that of an owl but its peak was like that of a raven. It was flying, and behind it, I drew a small moon at the corner of the paper, beneath the eagle's feet was a trace of reflecting water.

They trudged out of the woods and slowly started a conversation. The O'Connor mansion was a three-story building with red walls and a field surrounding it. A fountain stood in the middle of the premises covered with exquisite craftsmanship and perfectly sculptured fishes surrounding the center with water gushing out of their mouth into the pool. Behind the building were two wooden cabins and a cottage. One of the cabins served as a workshop while the other served as a store room. The cottage was for relaxation and privacy. He pulled from his pocket a small photograph of a Tudor-style house built of stone. "It will have thick walls, to keep you warm and a large room for your baths. We will live on the lower floor while Dorian and Laurel will live on the floor above." He paced off a distance to the back of the lot. "Here will be our nest room, with the children in a room over here." “It sounds beautiful. I can’t wait to see it.” She suppressed a grin.

He smirked impishly, "I'll just wait out here. Might finish that nap you interrupted." Twillow laughed and shook her head at him as he stood and moved away from the house through the trees to a grassy clearing. Leida beckoned her inside with a hand. With expert precision, Twillow flattened her iridescent wings down against her back and followed her into the house. Despite how it looked on the outside it was much bigger on the inside. The house was filled with all kinds of things; herbs, dried flowers, baking ingredients, crystal charms, and all kinds of bottles.

Bria suggested, and I grinned slightly. As we pulled up to the front of the house, I spied a white and black speckled large owl perched on the roof looking down at us, then immediately got a chill. “Is that Aspen?” I questioned Bria and she hummed before saying possibly. Narrowing my eyes at the feathered creature, I watched it tilt its head, spread its wings, and fly off toward the forest. “Is he able to transform into anything?” “Yes, he has that gift from his ancestors,” Bria sighed and I huffed in amazement.

We had to walk a few meters up the mountains after the bus dropped us of, and when we arrived, I blinked at the sight before me. It was a humble home, tucked quietly at the edge of the woods. A single-story house, small enough to belong only to two people, maybe three at most. The walls were weather-worn, the windows clouded, and the roof looked like it had stories to tell.
