The Rejected Healer's Retribution
"Today, I'm the constant."
The Assassin moved. It didn't run; it blurred.
The first strike shattered a crystal pillar inches from her head. She rolled, the liquid nitrogen searing her cloak as she swept her spear in a wide arc. The Assassin caught the blade with its mechanical hand. The salt crystals flared, trying to drain the machine's energy, but the Assassin didn't flinch.
"Pain is a legacy of the flesh," the Assassin said. "I have evolved beyond the legacy."
It kicked Elara in the chest, sending her skidding across the slick, cold floor. Her spear clattered away, sliding toward the edge of the Marrow pool.
