“Oh, you’re dead,” she hissed, laughter already spilling out.
She charged after me, scooping her own handful, and before I knew it, it was war. Elias tried to play it smart, muttering numbers and equations about wind direction until Nora pegged him in the face. Lucien ducked behind a drift, shadows lobbing snowballs faster than his hands ever could, until I tackled him into a bank and shoved his head under.
The air was sharp, our breaths white puffs, but Nora’s laughter cut through everything, wild, bright, unchained. I stopped for a moment to hear it.
