Bianca Emma falls back on the floor, clutching at her chest as she coughs, then gasps for breath. Her skin is slick with sweat, her lips tinged red and dried with blood. Panic sets in her face before she begs me for help. She's been stabbed by a seven-inch blade. What type of damage does that do? "Emma," her name tumbles from my mouth as I panic about how to help her. I leave my Mama's side to tend to her because right now, there's nothing I can do for my Mama, but Emma isn't a lost cause just yet.

She looked down at the blade now jutting out from her chest, glistening with the light rain that had just started to fall. And behind her— Dante. Hand trembling. Eyes hollow. His body was soaked, the rain already mixing with the blood on his arms, but none of it mattered. The knife had struck true. The ceremonial blade. The one made to kill monsters. Not people. But Emilia—his Emilia—had become something in between. Her knees gave out slowly, folding to the ground with a soft rustle of fabric. He caught her. He always did. Cradling her to his chest, as if somehow he could still protect her now. As if wrapping his arms around her could undo what had been done.

Valerie gripped the knife tightly and a smirk spread across her lips. She brandished the pocket knife, its blade glinting in the dim light. Emma's eyes widened in shock as she stepped back, her heart pounding with fear at the sight of the weapon in front of her. “Why do you have a knife?” Emma stuttered, her breath quickening in fear. “If you want me to leave this spot then fine, I will go, but please don't resort to violence,”

Blade smiled mischievously and wiped the blood off of his nose. “As you can see, these ones are feisty. They got me real good before I brought them here. If not for the potion you gave me, I’d have a harder time taking them but I’m telling you buddy, they are better than the previous pets I brought before,” Blade patted Garett’s shoulders and whispered, “One of them is a minister’s daughter, one of the most beautiful women in our kingdom. And the men? I’m sure the ladies would love them and bid a lot for them.”

“We had a deal, damn it!” In her head, Hannah spoke. Let go of the handle and grab the blade with your hand. I will, too. Trust me! Emma did as she was told. She grabbed the blade as Hannah did. Its well-honed edge cut deeply into her palm. Hannah yelled, “Duck!”

“Generous as always. You never disappoint, Vanessa.” “This job must be clean,” I warned. My voice trembled with a mix of fear and determination. “No mistakes, no traces.” Blade chuckled, tucking the envelope into his jacket. “Relax. You know what I can do. Clean, fast, invisible.” I leaned back, closing my eyes briefly. “Yes… I trust you.” And I did. Blade has never failed me before. Six years ago, he destroyed Emily with just a few clicks of his mouse, planting those photos that shattered her marriage. If he could tear her life apart, then he could end it now.

No! Emma dove out of the way. She didn’t see the blade connect. There was only the wet sound of skin splitting and the vibration running up her arm. Her feet kicked open air as they left the ground. A fresh blast of ice and decay gave her just enough warning to release the handle before the wendigo’s teeth gnashed for her throat. The dead tree fell in the snow beside her. A slight grunt came from above while the beast wrenched the hatchet free and tossed it aside. “That was very rude of you, Emma. You always did have lousy manners. I’ll have to leave part of you in the corner for time-out.”

He was the wealthy, arrogant playboy girls would swoon around, and also the Blade family's eldest son. "Ezekiel?” A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “Ezekiel Blade,” he said. "Why are you without your glasses, freckle face?” He always mentioned his last name like he was nothing without it. But I knew that he loved the name so much as it meant people would fear him. I rolled my eyes, pulling my hand away from his grip. “Still a bully, huh? Besides, I don't wear glasses anymore, and I'm definitely not freckle face. It's Lydia Winters,” I said, mimicking his words.

Then she looked up at me. Her eyes were red-rimmed, but steady. “She’ll be fine,” she said softly. “She has to be.” I wanted to believe her. God, I wanted to. But I could feel the tears burning behind my eyes, hot and dangerous. I hadn’t cried since I was a kid. Not once. But right now? I was seconds away. Emilia didn’t wait for permission. She took a small silver knife and sliced across her palm without flinching. Blood welled up, dark and rich.

“You will only train with your hellblades as I said” Adem and Adlee pouted but dared not say a thing Uncle Eren opened the box he had carried in his bag and peeled back the silk cloth. My heart jumped when I saw the blades again: crescents of metal glowing faintly, humming with a strange, dark energy. One by one he handed them to my friends. I sat down slowly on a bench at the side, my legs still weak, my eyes tracing every corner of the room. My throat ached, but curiosity overtook my pain. The weapons looked curious. How many lives had they taken? Or were they for training only?
