Ferin said slowly. The black-robed creature standing to his left removed the hood that covered his face. The man grinned broadly with bloodshot red eyes. They all widened their eyes in shock at the man. Especially Carlen, who gaped so wide; it was the first time he didn't seem dignified. "De-Den-Denton?" Darren stammered. Darren's different-colored eyes flickered in disbelief. Why had he not known and had never seen Denton at Ferin's headquarters? How could it be?

Erada rolled her eyes, were they not one of the people that looked down on the eldest miss. Murmurs fill the restaurant and I turn to see everyone looking at us. The Dhampir faces them and they all look at her as if they couldn't believe what they were seeing. The room smelled like bleach. I slowly opened my eyes. The harsh white lights made me dizzy. "Aria! You're finally awake!" Killian grabbed my hand and buried his face in my palm. His eyes were completely bloodshot, his hair a mess. His handsome face was written with pure terror and relief.

She attempted to split Friedel's arm with a backhand, but it was as unyielding as brass and iron, showing no reaction to her attack. Clutching her back teeth, eyes narrowed, Emily raised her hand to grab the edge of the man's golden mask. With a slight push, she ripped the mask off.
