Snakes circled the stump she perched on, their heads lifted and swaying like they were in a trance. Amerie crept closer, a deeper feeling of dread overcoming her. Her lips were black like diseased and dying flesh. Her scarred face beheld no nose, but an opening that resembled that of where one had once been. Her eyes were piercing white with vertical black slit pupils.

This was what they looked like when they were found. “No…” I whispered, tears streaking again. The woman lifted her head, blood dripping from her lips. And her face—it was Urmi’s face. Urmi is a witch? But it shifted, twisting, until it was Nymeria’s. Except not the Nymeria I knew. A darker version. Cloaked in black, her lips painted blood-red, her aura suffocating. She smiled lazily. “No need to hide who I am anymore. You’ll be dead soon.”
