Envy Opposite Novels & Stories

muli niyang asik na para bang nasa harap niya lang ang kapatid. Avery or Very is her total opposite even if they're twins.

“Happy Birthday, Ophelia. Mommy and Daddy have a special gift for you. You will have a younger brother, sweetheart. His name is a male version of your name.” Y-Younger brother? Ibig sabihin buntis pala ang Mommy ni Ophelia?

I was too afraid of failure. I have a bad relationship with my siblings now because of that. Kuya Ethan was competitive too and we got along a little bit better than kuya Nico. It's because we had the same mindset. We had the same mindset that we must take advantage of kuya Nico’s uncompetitiveness to be the best. To get our parents’ attention. To own the spotlight. I thought I was content with all that, not until I became friends with Chance. His relationship with his family was like a big slap in the face. For the very first time, I was envious of someone else. I barely get jealous because I can have everything I want.

It was a scene ripped from a fairytale, a perfect family portrait that mocked my own desolate existence. A bitter taste flooded my mouth. Envy, sharp and corrosive, ate away at me. Ang hirap pala yung ganito na nahahati between your jealousy and pity. I wanted to be rude but I can't. How can I make her into my enemy if from the very beginning she wanted to be friends with us? How can I make her into an enemy if she is as good as a saint? "Of course pwede naman yun." Sagot ko rito and I smiled at her. How I wish, she's like Venna so I can hate her to the core.

She saw envy in other people's eyes when they see her new bags or new toys, but it didn't make her happy, rather, it made her pity herself more. She envies those smiles these people have when their parents are there to support them. She envies those laughs and proud moments these families have shared together. Those were priceless memories that she couldn't buy with all her saved money in her bank accounts. Her credit cards could only afford to buy her temporary happiness – things that depreciate over time. She has longed for that attention and love from other people, but instead, they paid her kindness with betrayal. It scarred her heart. It broke her trust. It changed her.
