“Please, Klaus, we have until midnight,” I pleaded, taking a glass of champagne from a server, needing something to dampen my parched mouth. My knees couldn’t hold up my body anymore, so I leaned on one wall, gazing in Evan’s direction. I smiled at him, moving farther until I lost sight of him.
“No,” Klaus pressed, “you have until midnight, Cali. My sniper has eyes on him. Give me the signal and everything will go back to the way it was.” He ended the call.
