"Really good! I made a drawing today of you and me and Mama. Oh, and Grandpa too! Even though I don't know what he looks like yet, but I just imagined." I glanced at Alex with raised eyebrows. "Really? Can we see it?" "Of course you can! I worked super hard on it.” "I just hope you made me look so handsome in that picture, or else I'm gonna have to eat you up along with your drawing.” "Of course I did. I even made you really, really tall... like a giant tree!" Hailey giggled. Alex raised an eyebrow. "Like… a tree?" "Yeah! See?" She held up her drawing to the camera, and I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud. Alex was indeed drawn like a stick figure tree.

She makes a sassy face and I chuckle . " Well it's important for .. " I open my bag and search for my notebook that is supposed to be for study notes but is actually my boredom doodle file . " Tada ~ " I finish off as I show her my drawing of Luigini's wife naked and his name written between her legs . Since I didn't know what she looked like I decided to make her faceless , only shading to provide her a proper structure . Kayla slaps her hand against her mouth in order to stifle her laughter . Her face turns slightly red from restricting herself .

I glanced at a few of the books, some fantasy novels and a small sketch pad. I opened the sketch pad and looked through it, she was good. Really good. The scenes were mostly outdoors. Forests, waterfalls, mountains. All done with such grace and precision. Each more lovely and realistic than the last. I noticed at the bottom there was a J written as beautifully as the drawings themselves. I got to the last page and there was a drawing of a moon. Bright and beautiful in the sky but there was something else to it. The drawing felt sad. “What the hell.” I snapped as I lifted my hand and wiped a tear from my cheek.

Each part of her drawing appeared realistic, almost as if the image could come alive at any moment. Furrowing his brows, he turned another page to see a detailed image of one of the school courtyards that contained a statue of a fairy releasing water into a pool below her feet.

Nikki and I will be sharing a bedroom since the room is pretty big and we love spending quiet time together. "Hey, Mia. How did it go today? Finished your drawing?" Nikki asks as she makes her way to me on our line. "Yeah. Almost, I just need to color it when we get home." I reply as I take out my notepad and show her the picture I was drawing. It was a picture of a little fairy with flowers all around, wearing a flower dress. I love drawing fairies. I love drawing anything for that matter, but fairies and mythical creatures are my favorite.

Even if I never get to be free again… at least she can. I look down at the drawing in my hand. The crayon lines are uneven, bright, and a little messy. But I can tell she worked hard on it. It’s just the two of us. Me and Bailey. Stick figures standing side by side with our arms outstretched, a little heart between us, and a wolf pup curled at our feet. No father. No man looming behind us. No second name scribbled at the corner. She doesn’t draw Enzo.

She touches one of the dragon-like drawings, it feels vivid and new. “Come! Come!” She was once again pulled by the fairies, at the other side of the wall is an open room. It was dusty and spider webs were everywhere but the landscape was huge and they were sparkling minerals, the fairies urged her to walk again and there she faced the sleeping body of a silver dragon. It looks like the same altar that she entered before the blinding light, the ceiling was left open and the moonlight brightens the altar. “Prince! Save! Prince!” The fairies got even more eager, it was when Barrett realizes that there is a person lying on the top of the altar table, the whole image looks white.

A scrapping of a chair breaks the deteriorating conversation across the dinner table, Athan moving his chair back and heading out to the hallway. “Athan what are you doing?” His mother calls out after him, her eyes flickering between Calian and me. “I’m…here…I made this earlier on.” He enters back into the room holding a folded piece of paper in his hands. Surprisingly, he doesn’t hand it to his father, or even his mother…but moves towards me, placing it out in front of me. “I drew this.” He looks up at me expectantly, waiting for me to take it from him. I do, unfolding the paper to reveal a drawing of a female dressed in a black jumpsuit, a black cape…long lilac purple hair and glowing eyes

The reflection looked broken, like a person split into pieces. I forced myself to focus on the books, straightening them into stacks. Annie’s favorite fairy tale collection. A picture book about wolves. A coloring book filled with her careful artwork. At the bottom of the pile, I found a sketchbook that had been left open. Annie’s latest drawing sprawled across the page—three stick figures holding hands in front of a house. A family. Father, mother, and child. But the mother figure had long dark hair instead of Charlotte’s short style. The mother wore a dress like the ones I preferred, and her face had been colored in with care, unlike the quickly sketched father and child.

Nothing pulls me out of a weird mood faster than doodling. As we go through the scene for the umpteenth time, I find myself doing rough sketches of the men in front of me. None of my drawings ever look particularly realistic - my doodles have more of a cartoony, comic book style - but I'm pretty proud of how they turn out. Once I've done Omar and Mr. Grand, I move on to the person I really want to doodle - Orlando. I don't get him right the first time. Or the second. Or the third. At first I can't seem to get his hair right, but by the end it's his eyes that are giving me the most trouble. Nothing I draw can capture how startling and direct they are.
