She opened a backpack, trying to gather my little dolls. Inside, there was a sketchbook titled Chloe’s Wish Book. Mom’s hands trembled as she slowly opened it. Inside were my uneven handwriting, mixed with phonetic spellings, and colorful drawings full of childish imagination. On the first page, I had drawn a green forest filled with winged fairies. Next to it, I wrote: “Today Mom said there are fairies in the forest who can grant wishes. I want to find them and ask them to cure my illness, so Mom won’t have to work so hard.”

‘I guess even they noticed the height difference between Dante and me,’ I gave a quiet chuckle. “And this is us and Yuki, and we’re all holding hands.” Three little stick figures, blue, purple, and green, were next to the pink one, along with a weird-looking yellow thing that I guess was Yuki. “It’s beautiful, Nathan. Good job.” I cheered, and he beamed with pride. “Mine next.” Michael shoved his drawing into my hand, and I took his and Leon’s. They were similar to Nathan’s work, but Michael’s was more wonky, and the height difference was less dramatic. Leon’s drawing was the neatest, with a big red heart around us.

That was what she told herself. "Fina, look at thwis," Finlay said showing her the drawing he made. The girl showed surprise and looked at the stick figures in awe. "This is beautiful, Finn. Tell me who's this?" She said pointing at the small figure. Finlay beamed at her. "Thwis is Finn and thwis is Fina," Finlay said proudly with a beautiful smile gracing his lips. "Wow, Finn. You draw us so well, I love it. Give me a hug," She appreciated the kid who wrapped his small arms around her neck and hugged her tightly. She inhaled his warm baby scent.

When there were only a few pages left, the tone of my drawings changed. The objects and animals that I drew were not alone this time. I no longer drew a stormy or dark night, but a scenery with sunlight and good weather. The flower was accompanied by a dancing butterfly. The bear cub has found another little bear. The rabbit was happily nibbling on a carrot. Ah. This was the time when Layla and I started to be together. At the end of the page, I was surprised to find out an outline of a person's face. Since the sketchbook was old, the paper was slightly yellowed which affected the clarity of the drawing. I could barely see the outline.

And the key can only be found here. Caitlin’s hands shook as she turned the final page of the book, and saw on it nothing but a large diagram, a picture. It was a circle, and inside was what looked like petals of a flower, alternating scarlet and blue. In its center was another circle, with a crude drawing of a face. It was one of the most unusual drawings Caitlin had ever seen, looking like something out a surrealist painting. As Caitlin looked closely she recognized the symbol—and as she did, aghast, her breath caught in her throat, her hands shaking.

I always lock it before leaving the premises. “But I… Did I…” Brushing it off, I pull the mini door open, and yelp when a heap of papers rains on me as if waiting for me to open it all along. I stay still for a moment, just blinking at the drawings. They’re ugly exaggerated images of me; big head, messy hair, thin legs… I’m as tiny as a doll, while a big guy towers over me, his pants down, and I’m choking on his… What?! My heart drops.

Aria whispered against her sweater. Lena smiled softly. "That's the best compliment I've ever gotten." Getting up, Lena brushed a raindrop from Aria's cheek and asked, "Did you draw me today? Aria grinned and dug into her bag, producing a crumpled piece of paper. It was a crayon drawing of Lena standing at the counter with stacks of books all around her. She was wearing a ginormous smile and her teeth were white, and she had wings. "These are book fairy wings," Aria said. "Because you lead people to the right books."

"What does your new friend look like, Heidi?" Heidi proudly lifted her drawing. It was a crude, childish sketch of a very tall figure standing between two giant green trees. The figure was colored completely in dark gray and black crayons, but the most unsettling part was the face. Heidi had used a bright yellow crayon to draw two massive, perfectly round circles for the eyes.

I snap the human’s neck and watch the life leave his eyes. “Let’s see what we can do with this one and the bear we killed earlier. Any ideas?” Yalena holds up a drawing of hers with a wicked grin and I can’t help but smile back. “Where do you even come up with these ideas? You are more twisted than I thought.” We both laugh and begin focusing on our task. The fairies are in for quite the surprise.

"Really good! I made a drawing today of you and me and Mama. Oh, and Grandpa too! Even though I don't know what he looks like yet, but I just imagined." I glanced at Alex with raised eyebrows. "Really? Can we see it?" "Of course you can! I worked super hard on it.” "I just hope you made me look so handsome in that picture, or else I'm gonna have to eat you up along with your drawing.” "Of course I did. I even made you really, really tall... like a giant tree!" Hailey giggled. Alex raised an eyebrow. "Like… a tree?" "Yeah! See?" She held up her drawing to the camera, and I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud. Alex was indeed drawn like a stick figure tree.
