I flipped a couple of pages until I got to a picture. The man had drawn the picture of the Qilin we had seen in the Ethereal realm down to the swirling patterned fur. On the next page was a picture of each leaf form the Qilin's mane along with a diagram of how to use it. This was exactly what we needed. I screamed with joy jumping out of my chair and gaining too many people's attention. I sat back down in my chair with a blush as Liam sniggered at me. "Shut up." I pointed at him before he could say anything. "Look"

Perry gave us an exciting task: to draw our family portraits to give to our parents. I started drawing my house, my daddy, and me. My daddy is really tall, so I make sure to use my crayon to draw his black pants and shirt that Daddy wears most of the day. Hmm... what more can I draw? Oh yes, Daddy’s office bag. Yes! All done! “Let’s see what you’ve drawn! Cherry, would you show your drawing, dear?“ Mrs. Perry asked. The girl behind me nodded and proudly displayed her drawing with a big smile. “This is my dad, mom, my big brother Allen, and our dog Tai-tai,” she said.

"Uncle Damian! Look at my drawing!" She shoved a crayon portrait into his hands. It showed four stick figures: a tall one with spiky black hair (Damian), a tall one with messy brown hair (Julian), a medium one with long black hair (me), and a small one with pigtails (Lily). They were all holding hands under a yellow sun. "We're all holding hands," Lily explained. "Because we're a family." Damian stared at the drawing for a long moment. His throat moved. When he looked up, his eyes were suspiciously bright.

I said, ruffling his hair, as his twin returned with a drawing paper. “This is what I drew, mummy. I got it, right. I said drew.” He cheered, to which I smiled, stroking his soft cheeks. “Yes, baby. You did,” I said, collecting the drawing from him. “Now let's see what we have here.” There were four painted figures on the paper; two small ones, who I deduced were Liam and Leo with a slightly taller one with long hair and red lips, who I knew was me and a tall man with short hair.

Leo cheered, skidding to a halt beside my chair and thrusting the paper right into my lap. I looked down at the drawing, a soft, involuntary smile breaking across my face. It was drawn in bold, vibrant colors. In the center was a stone castle with blue flags on the turrets. Standing in the grass out front were three stick-figure people holding hands. On the left was a figure with black hair in a red dress labeled Mommy. On the right was a broad figure colored in black crayon labeled Mr. Tyson. And right between them, holding both of their hands with a yellow smiley face, was a smaller figure labeled Leo.

Maybe years. And then I see the drawings. Taped to the walls, scattered across tables, covering nearly every surface I can see. Sketches in charcoal and pencil, some detailed and finished, most of them half-done like he started and couldn’t bring himself to continue. All of them are the same person. A girl. Young, fourteen or fifteen maybe, with long dark hair and this smile that looks like it could light up an entire room. In some of the drawings she’s laughing at something off the page. In others she’s concentrating hard, her tongue stuck between her teeth the way kids do when they’re focused.

Ariana looked deeply confused while Maddison laughed harder like the devil himself possessed him. I genuinely considered murdering him right at that moment, eventually Ariana grabbed my hand excitedly before dragging me toward the bed again. "Look!" she announced proudly while showing me several drawings scattered across the blanket. "I made all these yesterday!" She must've drawn all these with the things Zachary brought for her, I sat beside her carefully while looking through them one by one. Most were colorful princesses, cats, cartoon flowers, and somehow one extremely violent drawing of Maddison being attacked by pigeons.

A piece of paper fluttered out. It was a drawing. Crayons on construction paper. Catherine picked it up, and her blood ran cold. The drawing showed two stick figures standing on a jagged white line (the ice). One was labelled "Daddy," drawn in blue. The other was labelled "Sad Man," drawn in red. They were fighting. But above them, the sky was ripped open. A black hole was drawn in the clouds. And coming out of the hole wasn't light. It was a tentacle. A massive, black, spiraling limb covered in eyes.

“It didn’t work. Maybe it will work after I become a full wolf like you and daddy." Not wanting to burst his little bubble, I nod. “Yeah, sure. Maybe you’ll be the first wolf in the family who can fly.” Raya tugs on my sleeve. "Mommy." "Yes, my love?" "I made something." She proudly holds up a folded piece of paper. I open it. It's a drawing. Four stick figures holding hands beneath a huge sun. One has a tiny crown. Another has pointy wolf ears. Two smaller ones stand between them.

Her perfectly serene doll-like look was ruined however by the tired scowl which decorates her face. Rubisviel Fyaril, the Orchid Butterfly Witch of the Dark Forest wipes the sweat from her brow and huffed after completing a drawing of a Cthulhu symbol inside her circle. Thick black bags hang under her tired golden eyes and her face was paler than usual. Her head hurts like a battle-ax was splitting it open and her shoulders and legs are aching after prolonged hours of sitting on the ground and focusing on drawing the symbols.
