For fun though, I like to read fantasy books so that I can get lost in a new world." He brings me to the fantasy section and I just stare at all of the amazing pictures on the front of these books. Forgetting that I am looking to read the books I pick one out judging by the picture alone. It shows a guy riding on the back of a golden dragon while another dragon breathes fire at him. I forced a smile as I turned to a random page in the book that held all realms in it, all while I never looked away from Maverick. "I think we can have some fun." I stated with my fake smile. The last part comes out almost as a squeak, and I feel my heart hammering hard in my chest, urging me to escape, to flee while I still can. Felix takes another step towards me, and I can see now that his eyes are sad, the gold-flecked greenish-brown darkened with sorrow. “You’re not… human… are you?” I ask, taking a step backwards as he approaches. Felix halts mid-step, and his face contorts, his eyes glint, and he cracks a massive smile before doubling over in a fit of hysterical laughter. “What kind of question is that?” He asks breathlessly, fighting back more laughter. “What do I look like, a bloody unicorn? Of course I’m human.”

There’s no getting around that fact at all. “So, we’re looking for a bird version of a spooky cat lady who has a fondness for living in woods, despite being right near a town? Is she old, young…. eats children? Do we need to crumble breadcrumbs along the highway in hopes of accidently falling upon her gingerbread house.” Carmen quizzes with a deadpan tone and a serious expression that somehow amuses me, despite her lack of emotion. This time I do laugh out loud, at the girl’s weird dry humor that I never realized she even possessed.
