I will be the shield he was for me. After an eternity of darkness, the heavy door groans open. It isn’t Santino, the man I once called husband, the man who let me love him while my brother’s blood was still dry on his hands. It is his father. “Look at you! So dirty!!” He barked out a laugh, his voice like grinding gravel. He circles me, a predator admiring a ruined pelt. “You don’t look like much now. My son has a talent for breaking things, doesn’t he?.”

He gently took my hand and said, "believe me, we'll figure it out." I closed my eyes, fighting inside, and just then there was a knock on my door, and a tall, imposing werewolf had entered Twilight Pack territory. His fur was calm and gray, and there was a unique depth and wisdom in his eyes that made me recognize him at once: Aaron, my father. "Roberta." His voice was low and warm, with a hint of fatigue that had come from afar. "Father!" I stood up in surprise, with a mixture of joy and worry. "Why are you here?"

My father said in an emotionless tone. The name of Alpha Hayden Croft was enough to freeze me. I saw the Luna smirking beside my father. So, she was talking about this punishment. “Father, no! Please.” I broke down in tears. Suddenly, the doors opened and I felt an intimidating, powerful aura filling the room. “Alpha Hayden.” My father’s face welcomed a smile while my body froze. “Alpha Gavin.” The man’s voice was deep and dark. I didn’t dare to turn around and come face to face with the incarnation of devil. He was ruthless and a slayer. Women were his weakness and I was the first one he wanted to marry.

His father was not a man he saw in the light, or would give him any benefit of the doubt even if there was some truth in Teya’s words. “How did he die?” she asked, her voice bringing Ken back to reality. “The vampire hunters probably caught him. Maybe it was even Ross,” he said. Teya sighed, hating the way Ken dismissed his father. She couldn’t believe him to be the bad guy when he had a human lover. “I’m sure he isn’t that bad,” she murmured, growing quiet and allowing her exhaustion to take over. “I love you,” were the last words she heard before she went to sleep.

Kendrick's father sniffed the air deeply, "Well son, who's your friend? Or have you brought me a basket of flowers?" Twillow gave Kendrick a look of surprise. His father could smell her from that distance? Kendrick smiled and said, "This is Twillow. She's a fae." The blind giant stood up slowly with his stick and closed the gap. Kendrick stood a tad bigger than his father but they definitely looked alike; especially in the jawline. Heartily, the two embraced, clapping each other on the back in a mighty hug. Twillow ducked close to Kendrick's neck to avoid falling or being smashed. Thankfully, the massive embrace stayed to the opposite shoulder and below the arms.

Xeric howled within me, suddenly submitting, disappearing deep into the back of my mind and I glanced over my shoulder, unable to see him clearly, but the figure and the scent was enough for me to know, "Father." I turned around, finally coming face to face to the man I hadn’t seen for years since I was banished into this realm, and now, like a shadow, like an unwanted dream, he was here, standing right in front of me. King Damian, Alpha of the Shifter kind, and my father.

His stormy eyes bore into mine, as if I had grown two heads. “You don’t get it, son,” he said, his voice edged with something deeper than anger—something almost like pain. “You don’t know how tainted their blood is, how much evil runs in that family. ’ However, to his surprise, the little one turned back before he got on the luxury black car and left a meaningful glance even though it just stayed for a second. “Get in.” Said the man. The door closed quickly and the car was soon nowhere to be seen, leaving the two standing silly in the rain. "Damn this man! Who the hell does he think he is. How could he be so cold even to his own son? Is that boy truly his son? I would rather die if I had such a dad like him."
