Though the look on her face reminded Alex of his worst nightmare but still, Alex couldn't help the laughter that bubbled in his throat. 'Karen' was a short woman, she reminded him of a funny meme he had seen last week, which had compared short people to soldier ant.

I offer and everyone seems to snap out of whatever stupor they were in. The day was long and tedious. We finished the plans for my Dad's funeral. It was to take place on his pack lands in two days. Our funerals are much like human ones except we bury the body on our pack lands and we have an outdoor party afterwards to celebrate the love of the deceased and share in our grief of losing them.

The car halts at once, but despite the nature of my request, he never takes his eyes off me. My body freezes. That beastly fury begins taking over my senses. My vision blurs, adrenaline spikes, yet a strange, fleeting calm settles deep inside me as I step into the brush. I stop unexpectedly. All I hear are my own heartbeats and the cracking branches beneath the trees. A warm, fleeting but powerful scent reaches me. When I turn toward the road, I see a black car-a sleek Ferrari speeding toward us at a breathtaking pace. A smile spreads across my lips, and I rush back out to the roadside.

And one seventy-four dollar bill. My face instantly morphed into confusion. I felt iffy. That's it? It can't be just this easy. It's not even a punishment. "Don't get too happy, you have to walk to the market and bring all the groceries-" Ruth says as I crane my head slightly to look at her 5.7 ft tall frame. "-And the good part is you don't get to eat. Fair enough, right?" Her lips twisted into a fake smile. My lips parted, at the loss of words, unable to express my bafflement. Walk all the way to market and get all the things on the list. The market is forty-five minutes' walk away from here and that's not even my concern right now.
