A deafening silence followed. Ethan grunted behind us; when I shot him a warning look, he pretended to be preoccupied. Allen clicked his tongue, drawing my attention back.
“We need to talk, Ms. Gomez.”
“I-I don’t think there’s anything to discuss, Sergeant,” I said, forcing a smile I hoped didn’t look as fake as it felt.
“The news is full of reports about a creature slaughtering people,” he said, stepping closer. “In the woods, I remember you looking for someone before you vanished. I saw it with my own eyes.”
