*** James The sound of my heartbeat hammered in my chest, each beat a violent, relentless thrum that threatened to deafen me as I pushed through the choking smoke. My eyes burned, but they were fixed—locked—on Katniss. There, in the center of the inferno, her body motionless, consumed by flames that seemed to have a mind of their own. The fire wasn’t just destroying the house; it was alive, vicious, almost as if it were taking revenge, as if it had been waiting for this moment. The orange and red tongues of flame reached hungrily, devouring everything they could touch, twisting and flicking in every direction, daring anyone to come close. But none of that mattered. All that mattered was her.

Seb THE ASH from the fireplace had been cold for three years, but the stench of it still lived in the back of my throat. I sat at my desk, the glow of the desk lamp cutting a sharp arc across the newly unsealed arson diagrams. The local authorities had written it off within forty-eight hours: A faulty generator. An unfortunate casualty of territory crossfire. A tidy conclusion meant to satisfy the syndicates and keep the peace in the north.

“Then we do this together.” Celeste nodded. “The first fire will be named. The justification dismantled. And the pattern broken.” Outside, the city lights flickered on as evening settled. The world continued, unaware of the history written into ash beneath its feet. Evelyn looked once more at the folder on the table. Fires. Names. Lies framed as necessity. The first fire had been lit in fear. This time, the truth would burn instead. And it would not stop until the pattern was gone.

Rose POV I walked into the dining room very moody, maybe my period was coming, that thing come without any notice but then I noticed my mark is burning, I kept rubbing it to get the burns away but it was getting worst and driving me crazy "are you okay" my mother asked me with concerned look on her face "I don't know, my mark is burning and my wolf is not okay" the pain is getting worse and my wolf is weeping in my head "her mate is trying mark someone else, his mark on hers is responding to it" my father who was just coming out said seeing me and rushing t my side to support me

Flames races across the ground, bright and merciless. “No!” I scream, lungs breaking. Claudia and the others turn their backs, Eli dragged out with them. The door slams shut, sealing me inside. Flames roar, racing up walls. Smoke thickens, stinging my eyes, clawing down my throat. I choke, coughing hard. Heat licks my skin. My mind reels, flickers of fire striking me with painful familiarity. The memory of another blaze, another nightmare, gnaws at me. I cough harder, body weakening. Fire dances in my blurred vision, glowing in my eyes like the end itself. Is this how it all ends?

Dry grass had been carefully arranged beneath every body. The white-covered forms rested peacefully upon them. Maria lay among them. I nearly lost my composure. Marten gently touched my arm. Silent support. Nothing more. Nothing less. I inhaled shakily. Then lowered the torch. The flame touched the grass. For a moment, nothing happened. Then fire erupted. It spread swiftly. One pyre. Then another. Then another. Soon flames consumed every funeral bed. The fire climbed high into the dark heavens. Orange. Gold.

The fire had been burning for hours, a blazing beacon that cut through the darkness of the frozen wasteland like a lighthouse in a storm. Julian had watched it from a distance, his body trembling with a mixture of cold and exhaustion, his mind drifting in and out of consciousness. He had not meant to burn the house down. He had only wanted to signal for rescue, to attract attention, to find help. But the fire had spread faster than he had anticipated, consuming everything in its path, reducing the Mill Creek house to a pile of smoldering ash and charred timbers.

I light the fuel with my other hand. The flames catch fast and climb through the hardware, licking around the laptop’s edges, finding the drive, consuming the server. The plastic casing warps and bubbles. Internal components glow orange, slowly deforming in the flames. The laptop screen cracks from the intense heat, the glass falling inward. Above it all, the smoke climbing into the Alaskan sky carries sixty-three names, ten years of lies, and eight years of bruises into the dark where nobody will ever retrieve them. We watch it burn. Her hand in mine. The fire reflecting in her eyes.

The forest still smelled of smoke. The air hung heavy, scorched, as though the fire Evelynn had summoned had left its fingerprints on the world itself. The night was quiet now—eerily quiet—except for the soft crackle of dying embers and the ragged breaths of those who had survived.

“Sal might be more than a person of interest. He could be a suspect. And if they think it’s him, while they’re compiling their evidence, we’re not getting him out of lockup any time soon. Because arson is …” Gianna gave a silent nod. Unexpectedly, Rio gave a rough cough, something that lingered and rattled and had Gianna at his side in a second. “Don’t touch me,” He hissed, trying to pull away from Gianna’s hands. Lowly, so she could barely be heard, Gianna said, “Stop it. Just …” She took a deep breath and stated, “The most fatalities, statistically, that result from a fire are not from the fire itself. Most fatalities occur from smoke inhalation, and it’s no joke. So let me look at you. De
