Cecilia’s POV The river, which had been flowing peacefully in the darkness, suddenly started bubbling on the surface. “Pop, pop—” “Pop, pop—” “Pop, pop—” As the first bubble burst, more followed, and soon dozens of little fish with glowing red bodies emerged from the water. They circled around the small wooden boat, leaving red ripples in the deep green waters. The fish kept a cautious distance but would occasionally brush against the boat, like butterflies fluttering around a flower.

It would be another eight years before I made my escape. I felt something solid latch onto me and drag me bodily out of the water. I clung to it only to realize I was not eight years old anymore and Mykel was pulling me from the water. I coughed and sputtered, water spewing from my mouth and lungs at an alarming rate. I collapsed onto Mykel, shivering, desperate to feel safe from the memories that still haunted me. He wrapped his arms around me, grounding me to him and I began to calm. I was unaware of anything, even the cold, while his arms were folded against me.

A giant smile lighting up her face. It didn't take long for the other kids to warm up to me. It didn't take long to learn that Lucas was ten, and he loved to hunt with his mum and fish with his dad. I learned that Oro was eight, and he liked eating burnt chicken nuggets. And that Tays, who was six, likes to punch people. Learned that the hard way. I didn't even notice the hours that passed by, or the change in the forest. The only time we stopped was to eat the snacks Lucas carried in his backpack.

I responds. I arrive home before River and Jessica, so I decide to play a prank on River. Surprisingly, her bedroom door is unlocked. I laughed a bit and then looked at him. "Hold your breath," I told him and held back a laugh as I got an idea. He closed his mouth then after catching a deep breath. I purred and dove into the water, my water breathing ability kicking in as I started to count the seconds so I wouldn't drown Toma. I used my wings to get us lower in the sea quickly, showing him some of the fish before I got to fifteen and then flew up out of the water fast, expanding my wings against the sky as I lifted us out of it. He took in a deep breath, looking around at the water. "There's fish!" He told me. I laughed and looked at him.
