“I remember there was a library here. If there’s anything left of it, it might help us.”
Behind me, the others followed hesitantly. Soren, ever the skeptic, muttered, “Are you sure about this, Fiona? It’s not exactly safe.”
I shot him a look over my shoulder. “Safe isn’t really an option anymore, is it?”
A hush fell over us as we reached what remained of the library. The skeletal frame of the building loomed ahead, its roof long caved in, its shelves nothing more than decayed wood and ash.
But something tugged at the back of my mind. I walked forward, my fingers trailing along the charred remains of a bookshelf. And then, just beyond a crumbling archway, I saw it.
