she whispered, her hand locking over my wrist as I leaned into her space, my lips meeting hers in a deep, possessive kiss that permanently sealed the final page of our survival under the bright Monday sun. The wind continued to howl off the granite ridges outside the high glass windows, throwing a wild, beautiful shadow across our private penthouse, but inside the master suite, the air was entirely unbroken. The hunt was officially finished, the trackers were dead in the dirt, and as the morning sun hit the high stone walls of our fortress, I knew with absolute certainty that the future of the Crescent Warriors belonged entirely to the unbroken dynasty rising from the ash.

VOLUME ONE: FLUX: Freedom Alex crept down the stark white hallways lit with generic compact florescent lighting. The tile echoed every whisper of her careful, quick movement. A dark line beneath each office door gave away the emptiness of the building. She slowed her elegant stride as a corner approached and pressed her pointed ear to the wall. Alex heard no vibrations and carefully peeked one dark eye around the corner. An empty row of office doors stared back. She continued down three more vacant corridors, exact copies of the previous, as if hallways could be mass produced. Her mental map guided her through the winding maze until she finally faced the door number 1672.

We knew the facts were watered down, that she didn’t want to hurt the Luna by dwelling on the “dark year.” Sometimes I’d catch glimpses of my mother’s torn, scarred back. Old lashes still etched into her pale skin, years later, that they were reminders of the former Alpha’s atrocities. But I liked the idea that she found our father in the darkest moments of her life. That maybe he was that beacon in the storm, rescuing her from the bottomless abyss. And they went on to create Crescent Peak, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The moment Flynn received the message he immediately began maneuvering his laptop. It took him one hour before he found the details about the number, but not all. “Did you find something?” Hyde asked as he started to get bored reading his book. “Not much, he was using a burner phone. But I got the phone’s location.” Flynn stood up and strode towards his friend with the laptop, showing him the screen. “Black Crest…” Hyde mumbled as he locked gazes at the screen. A familiar place where his smiles began to faint like a firefly slowly lost its flicker.

What really sealed the deal, though, was the legendary fight at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. The sunrise from my window of the Crescent Winds pack house was spectacular. The morning went by rather smoothly. We had breakfast with the Alpha and Luna and said our goodbyes.
