Because I had no choice. I’d survive. Somehow. Later, when the silence grew too loud to ignore, I crawled toward the window, pressed my hand against the cool glass, and stared up at the moon. She looked back at me—distant, glowing, and cold. Tears slipped down my cheeks as I whispered, “What will become of me? What about this child? I didn’t ask for this…” I wept—quiet, trembling sobs that shook my shoulders as I curled up on the floor beneath the moonlight. Alone. Terrified.

Chapter One — The Moon Finds Me I learned early that survival meant silence. Silence when the itch crawled beneath my skin like ants trapped under glass. Silence when my bones ached before storms that never came. Silence when the moon felt too close, too heavy, like it was leaning down to whisper my name. I lived among humans because they didn’t listen to the dark. They didn’t hear the way the night breathed. They didn’t notice how the world tilted when the moon grew full, how shadows stretched just a little too long, how my pulse stopped belonging to me.

It seemed the universe was against her. First, Rylan betrayed her, he didn't even give her the chance to defend herself. I asked, still stunned. On various occasions, I had tried to read through it, but to no avail. The highest I ever went was page seven, and here, Amy claimed it to be her favorite. “It's quite easy and I do love the writings in it,” she announced as she munched on a snack. I nodded, satisfied. Soon, it was nightfall. The sun had completed its journey to the Western skies and all that was left now was a thick wave of darkness. “We should get dressed now. Jackson's driver would be here soon to take us for the dinner as mentioned.”
