“I’ve been climbing this same ladder since the day I became the Alpha of Frost Fang. I’ve never fallen once. I’m not going to suddenly fall now just because you’re standing there watching me.” The words had barely left my mouth when the ladder gave a dangerous wobble beneath my feet. One of the lower rungs shifted with a loud creak. My balance faltered. “Lara—!” I gasped as gravity took over. My foot slipped completely. The book fell from my grasp as I tumbled backward, arms flailing. Strong arms caught me mid-fall. Matteo had rushed forward, but the force of my fall was too much. We crashed to the floor together in a tangled heap. I landed directly on top of him with a heavy thud, knocking

Chapter 43 – Shadows Between Us The night was heavy with rain. It pressed against the small apartment windows, each drop tapping like impatient fingers. Abby sat curled on the couch, her hands resting over the soft curve of her belly. The air was warm from the heater but her chest still felt cold. She told herself she was fine. She told herself she didn’t need him. But every time the thunder rolled she thought of Edward’s voice and the way he used to hold her when storms came.

I search for a way to reach the top and continue my work when I see a little seat where I could climb and have sufficient height to arrive at the top. I do so and find myself not still arriving, remark the bookshelf is long, but is better than before. I straight my hand to attain the next document but the door beside the bookshelf opens shaking the little seat I took and making me lose control of my feet on the chair and preparing to fall.

As I turn to leave I bump into Cole which makes me fall. Hello friend, I say to the floor "Easy there sugar, don't want you breaking anything now, do we?"he drawls slowly reaching to help me up, flashing a smile. I bet he thinks he's so charming. "Thanks but I don't need your help getting up"I stand and dust myself again, "seeing as you're the reason I fell down by the way"I say tightly. I've seriously got to stop bumping into bitches and cocky guys He smirks, "Well love, I think you should be watching where you're headed don't you?"he asks with one brow raised

The ground rushed up to meet her, unforgiving. Her head struck hard. Darkness poured in like ink. Somewhere far away, a car screeched to a halt. A door slammed. Footsteps. Voices panicked, unfamiliar. “Oh my God, call 911!” “She’s not moving!” “Don’t touch her, don't touch her!” Nora didn’t hear them. Didn’t feel the rain that had started to fall lightly, speckling the pavement with cold dots. Didn’t know blood was pooling beneath her, dark against the road.

The fall was more than something he could control. He couldn’t stop the scream that forced itself out of his mouth as he found himself struggling against the force of gravity. His body hit the window guards from the top most floor and his head also hit one of the opened window glasses and continued downward until it got to the middle floor at the fourth second where it hit another opened glass window, all this slowing down his movement and increasing the pains of his fall. He closed his eyes in anticipation of his death as he continued falling.

Everything was so dark. Am I falling? The sensation hit all at once—weightless, violent, endless. Like the ground had been ripped out from under me and I was tumbling through nothing, air screaming past my ears even though there was no air. No up. No down. Just a total free fall. Will I be falling endlessly to hell? Maybe that place will suit me. The thought didn't scare me. It almost felt... fitting. Was that a spider. No—Not a spider.

I didn’t see the yawning, obsidian maw of the hole until it was already far too late. My foot hit nothing but empty air, and the sudden weightlessness was more terrifying than the pursuit. I fell. The descent was agonizingly slow, an infinite plunge into a darkness that felt alive. I was screaming, my throat raw and burning, my eyes wide and fixed on the shrinking circle of the sky above. I reached out, my fingers clawing at the emptiness, wishing for help, for a hand to reach down and pull me from the abyss. Save me, I tried to shout, but the wind swallowed the sound.

"FALLING FEELS EXACTLY LIKE FLOATING UNTIL IT DOESN'T." MAYA. The problem with falling was that it didn't feel like falling. That was the thing nobody told you. You expected it to feel like a drop — sudden, alarming, the floor disappearing under your feet with enough force that you knew exactly what was happening and could at least name it while it was occurring. You expected to feel it the way you felt other bad things. Clearly. Unmistakably. With enough warning to brace.

Vincenzo’s dark soulless eyes bore into mine, making my inside cuddle, but I had no intention of showing him how much of an effect he had on me. “You’re right, Little Ballerina…” he nodded, terrifying brutality lurk in his eyes as he strode towards me. His steps were slow, languid and prey-like. And as a human, my instinct kicked in to do the needful. RUN. But instead, I stood my ground, trying to steady my trembling legs which already had enough of my weight and wanted out when I needed it the most. “But when you see yourself surrounded in a puddle of blood, what should you do?” He stopped right in front of me, towering over me like a god.
