I have no other option but to turn around and cross the road over to another street. Turning around I'm quick to make my way over to the other street and turn around to look back at them, before I'm turning around a corner by some houses and won't be able to see them anymore. But they are not there! The streets are empty and not a sight of them anywhere. Looking around everywhere they are nowhere to be seen and I'm shocked how they could move away from there that fast. Is it even possible? I stand there for a moment and look around, waiting to see if they are coming back but there is no trace of them.

The kid’s eyes widen so much, they might come out “My house is right around the corner!” “I’ll have to excuse myself for a moment then.” Zen says, glancing at me from the corner of his eyes, amused at the turn of events It’s almost comical seeing those two walk side by side. A titter goes through the group of kids peering from behind the street corner when Zen and their friend near them. There’s a burst of noise, little voices all speaking at the same time. I laugh a little as I catch sight of Zen’s expression, slightly startled.

I think and take two steps back at a time and I don't stay there wondering what the heck it is as I swiftly turn and sprint across the street while it chases after me almost instantly. I have no sense of direction or destination, I only want to get as far away from that thing as possible. I dart fast and into another alley, when I look back, the thing is getting closer and it's incredibly fast. I try to run fast but my vision begins to spin again and I'm stumbling on my feet but regains my balance but shit, I can't see what's in front of me anymore. Is this how I die?! Just as the thought crosses my mind, it leaves just as quickly when my wrist is grabbed and I'm yanked into a corner.

Something told me to pull away, but I didn't. Suddenly at the corner of my eyes, I caught a movement. Pulling away, I squinted my eyes to see clearly. There, at the furthest corner of the street, opposite of ours, stood a shadow under the damaged street light. Its body was angled to us. Goosebumps crawled up onto my skin as I felt its gaze on me. Though I couldn't make out anything out of it as it was in the darkness, I could feel it. Its stare.

For a spring night, the breeze was freezing. Kevin thought he caught a motion from the corner of his eye and tripped to his feet from momentary excitement. Then squinting out into the distance, at the intersection, he saw them—some roughly dressed men coming out of dark corners. They sauntered towards him and seemed to be in no rush. “One, two, three, four, five,” he counted. “Six.” The corners of his mouth twitched up as he took his seat to wait for them. “Perfect.”

"I promised Dad I wouldn't end you, so consider this your last warning. Next time, it'll be much worse." Joseph's men held Elliot down while Joseph picked me up, his voice soft but urgent. "Don't be scared. You're safe now." I nodded, feeling secure in his arms. As we walked out, Sheila appeared from the shadows, looking upset and disheveled. She pointed a gun at us, her hands shaking. The second the bullet zoomed by, my head spun. Joseph, who was holding me, spun around fast. He hugged me close to try to block the bullets with his wide back.

The young men exchanged glances, contemplating their next move. In a sudden, calculated motion, they steered me away from the crowd, into a less populated corner of the room. I couldn't help but notice the watchful eyes of other partygoers, some pretending not to witness the unfolding drama while secretly keeping a keen eye on the spectacle. They’re scared of these men.

As I stood, I saw the young man walk out, but I couldn’t see his face because his back was turned to me. I hurried to my room and checked the window since my room faced outside.

The streets are mostly empty, yet I feel eyes on me, tracking my every move. I swallow hard and tell myself it’s nothing, but my body betrays me, tense and alert. Each step echoes louder than it should, like the silence is amplifying my fear. The urge to look over my shoulder grows stronger until I can’t take it anymore. I stop abruptly and peer over the corner, heart pounding in my chest.

Klaus had already taken her out of the room, but I was stuck in here because there was someone else inside the room and I couldn't afford to be seen. I hear footsteps coming from one of the rows in front of me, and dread fills me. I peek around the corner, trying to catch sight of the person. I couldn't see anyone. I shifted from my hiding position and pressed my back against the other side of the shelf, so I was turned left from where I was hiding. The footsteps were getting closer, and they were walking down the row to my left. I close my eyes and hold my breath. There was no way the person wouldn't see me.
