The front cover featured a pair of clinging humans in an intimate position. "Mostly bonuses from work at the publishing house." [Bonus?] Maureen opened the preliminaries view, the page showing the book's team and found Ben's name there as the editor. "Wow!" It was amazing for Maureen who had just learned about the other side of Ben. Not to mention the contents of the book that was read when flipped over. "Isn't it hot to read something like this?" Ben was already standing next to Maureen, taking the book from her hand and placing it back in the stack. In such close proximity, the scent of sweat running down the hollow of Ben's neck tempted Maureen to linger there.

Back to the front cover. Kenneth gave me this book as a present. For drawing purposes, I know it's a sketchpad with white blank papers. Just ordinary... Yet now, I'm witnessing with my own two eyes how the plain abstract cover erased its colors, transforming into something red with cursive design at the center. Written in thick italic letters, THE BOOK OF STRINGS wrote itself as if there's an invisible hand with golden ink writing them. If I'm in my right state of mind, I would have screamed, tuck my tails, and bolt to ask for help. But I did nothing of those...

I never heard anything about a book, so I moved toward it to see if it was connected. When I opened the cover, a picture of the Scepter was on the first page. The book was thick and there was no way I would be able to read it in a short amount of time. Deciding to take the book, I tucked it under my arms and retreated out of the room.

I muttered, opening the first page. I needed to start working on myself so that I could erase all thoughts of Xavier’s sister from his memory. On the first page of the book was a table of content, showing all that was to be found in the book. I scrolled down from the introduction and jumped to “Casting your first spell.” I traced my finger on the dotted lines and found the page number. I opened the book and when I got to this page, I stopped. The name of the contact was boldly written in capital letters and it took the whole page. Opening to the next page, I found it’s content.

"What exactly are you looking for, or looking to find." "I don't know. The initials just called me. F.S." "That's, that's not a lot." Zoe completed like I didn't know that already. " Read the book, you haven't right?" I nodded and flipped the book open. The following pages after the dedication and first page were empty. After that, the next heading read Content with a series of smaller sentences piling up in a straight line. There were no lines on the yellowed pages, but the sentences were straight. The handwriting on its own, not so much. A few of the titles had disappeared so a the whole page didn't make a lot of sense.

The knowledge contained within the book was unlike anything I had ever seen before, and I knew that it would change my life forever. When I made to hold the book, I noticed its intricate designs etched into the cover. The patterns were so detailed and precise, it was as if they had been carved by hand. I ran my fingers over the designs, feeling the grooves and ridges beneath my fingertips. The book felt ancient, as if it had been around for centuries.

"That's what it is." We read for most of the morning. Him at the desk, me on the couch with the book I'd taken from him at the shop yesterday. He'd been right, first read was for what happened. But I found myself reading for structure already, the architecture visible through the surface of it. At eleven I looked up. "This is built backwards," I said. He looked over. "What do you mean." "The ending is in the first chapter. Hidden but there." I held up the book. "He wrote the ending first and constructed everything toward it."

The book falls with a thud onto the bed frame. It glows brightly in the sunlight and I do not dare touch it. Its leather bound cover is worn and tattered. It looks to be older than the kingdom itself. Strange lettering is on the front of the book. Symbols from a language that I do not recognize. My fingers itch to touch the cover of the book. Reaching out a finger I lay it gently on the cover of the book. The symbols on the cover shift and change into words that I can understand. "Prophecies of the Fae."

I explained while keeping the antique tome in his table. "It's a book about mates but this is the first volume of it's collection, and it doesn't have provided any potential information so far." Alpha Brian leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning my face and to the book as he listened intently. "Hmm, I see. This book is part of a collection, you say?" I nodded, my fingers pointing at the back page, showing where it shows its collection. "Yes, Alpha. There are five more volumes to it, but the first one seemed more like an introduction. I couldn't find anything useful in it."

I asked him; my eyes lit up afterwards when I set them on the thick leather book. I stretched my hands forward, bringing it out. The front cover was a bit dusty, and with a light blow, I was able to send the tiny particles of dust flying. The moment I dropped the book on the table. It caused the papers perched by the side to fly. I went to pick them up, stacking them up on the table afterwards. My attention was back on the book, and slowly, I flipped it open. I was disappointed when I realised that this wasn’t a standardised book with contents and labelled pages; it was a journal.
