Her body trembled against mine, and I kept one hand moving slowly up and down her back—something I remembered used to calm her when words wouldn't. "Talk more," she whispered. "Please." I searched for something—anything—to keep her mind occupied. "Okay," I said, exhaling slowly. "Did you know penguins propose to their mates with pebbles?" She blinked, caught off guard. "...What?" "Yeah," I nodded, managing a small smile. "They find the smoothest pebble they can and present it to the one they like. If the other penguin accepts it, they mate for life." Serena stared at me. "Are you seriously telling me penguin trivia right now?"

I peered at the basket to see what was inside, but he was hovering over it. “Well, we have all of the usuals. Chicken.” He pulled out a huge plate of fried chicken. “Turkey.” He pulled out an entire roasted turkey and set that beside the fried chicken on the blanket. “Ostrich.” The next plate had what looked like a small, roasted ostrich on it, beak and all. “And of course, flamingo.” The flamingo looked like pink marshmallows. It was standing on one leg, balanced on the plate. He set that aside as well, but I swear it’s eyes were following me, and it was smiling.

"It lit up." "Yes. It lit up." She turned her own small hand, warm with her own body heat, over and placed it palm up, resting it quietly in his palm. He didn't close his hand around it, just let it rest there. Her palm was warm. His was cool. Outside the window, in the pine forest, a Snowfeather bird with wings so translucent they seemed nearly invisible alighted on the highest pine crown. It ruffled its feathers, tilted its head back, and let out a thin, high cry, like the first crack forming on a sheet of ice.

The rain tasted like copper and regret. Raven Sterling stood at her seventh-floor window, watching Seattle blur into watercolor grays. The city below felt distant safe, human, deliberately small. She pressed her palm against the glass, and frost bloomed beneath her skin before she could stop it. The window didn't freeze over anymore. She'd learned to control that particular betrayal. Most days. Her office was deliberately empty of personality: white walls, abstract art that meant nothing to her, plants that survived neglect the same way she did. The therapist who'd designed it had probably intended the aesthetic to be soothing. Instead, it felt like living inside an unfinished thought.

“Barely. I think there’s still some flour in places it shouldn’t be.” He chuckles, his smile wide and genuine. “You were quite the sight, you know. Covered in flour, looking both adorable and ready to murder someone.” “Adorable?” I repeat, raising an eyebrow. “That’s a first.” “Oh, absolutely,” he replies, leaning casually against a post. “It was a masterpiece. A flour-dusted goddess in her natural habitat.” I shake my head, trying to suppress a grin. “You have a strange sense of humor, Frost.”

he barked across the rink. My skates carved hard across the ice as I pushed into another sprint drill. My legs burned, lungs tight with cold air. We’d already been at it nearly two hours. Pass drills. Defensive rotations. Full-ice sprints. “Foster! Move!” “I am moving,” I muttered under my breath, shoving harder across the ice. The rest of the team groaned as we lined up again. The locker room buzzed with tired complaints. “Murphy’s tonight?” someone asked.

But she couldn’t explain it away, not when she looked at his mouth from which two teeth were protruding now. No, not teeth. Fangs! Pointy, sharp fangs like those of an animal. Like a Sabertooth tiger. She couldn’t think it, no, because to think it made it real. It couldn’t be real. It didn’t exist. He didn’t exist, not like that.

Ingio asked with his brows furrowed in anger She laughed and walked away. "Congratulations Paxon am so happy for you. I never believed you'll ever be a father" "Well I am" Paxon replied "Soon to be....and I hope its a boy" "Well tests say it's going to be a girl but the gender doesn't matter" "Am happy for you my brother....where is your wife?" "She's inside sleeping" Inigo nodded "I'll get going now," Ingio said standing up "So soon?" "Yes. I just wanted to check on you and your wife and it seems you all are fine" Paxon nodded.

As Charlie listened, he heard her shout, "You are all responsible for global warming! You are the reason the polar caps are melting!" A blonde even echoed, "That's right! In the Arctic, penguin chicks are losing their habitat, and it's all because of you selfish humans! Driving cars emitting huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere—aren't you ashamed?" Charlie frowned and asked Vera. "Are there penguins in the Arctic?" "Probably not," Vera laughed. "Someone tried to move them there a hundred years ago, but not one species survived for various reasons." Charlie sighed. "And they call themselves environmentalists? What an embarrassment."

Yuri opened the door of the cage and stroked it lovingly. "Are you okay?" Fremingo walked over slowly with a camera in her hand. "I'm scared." Yuri gently took it out of the cage. Fremingo took a look at it and said coldly, "if it die, I can make a roasted pig." The little porcupine shivered and shouted at him "hum" with dissatisfaction. You are the roast pig! "Look, you can still resist, which means you won't die. Don't worry." Fremingo said to Yuri.
