Mine
It was real, and she will never get the chance to right her wrongs.
"He's coming, Riley. Can you smell him? He's coming to us."
Riley sniffed the air and could smell the pine and fresh grass scent. It was getting stronger. She sat up and looked around but couldn't see him.
"I know you're out there. Show yourself!" she demanded.
And there he was, her stranger, her mate. Hooded again, right before her.
"I'm sorry, Riley. It's all my fault," he said.
She could smell the guilt on him. The sadness within his voice and all around his body. She could hear his heartbeat, faintly, but she could hear it beat.
