| HAILEY | Xavier’s eyes shifted, ocean blue fading into molten gold. The air around us thickened, alive with wild energy. His wolf had taken control. “Turn around now!” a low, rumbling growl tore from Xavier’s chest. I didn't hesitate. Rolling onto my back, I sank into the mattress, the sheets cool against my overheated skin. My breath hitched as I hooked my hands behind my knees, drawing my legs up and apart, exposing my pussy completely to Xavier’s predatory gaze.

I flipped the second page open and began reading. “After finding his mate and claiming her as his, the alpha moved to make it known under the crimson moon.” Though I had a foggy mind while reading the first sentence, my mind put the words together to make sense. This was a werewolf lore book just like the ones I’ve devoted myself to reading in the last week, but unlike those, this was a children’s book. I snapped it shut, got up, and hurried away from Zion’s room. I entered mine, went through the three books I had gotten from the store, and set them down on the bed.

Caierre staggered. The wolf roared. The sound exploded through his skull like thunder. He nearly collapsed. The clearing blurred. The soldiers immediately reacted. Several raised their weapons. Others stepped backward. Morwen remained perfectly still. The pain intensified. Caierre squeezed his eyes shut. Memories flashed through his mind. Not his memories. Someone else's. Blood. Screaming. Chains. A massive black wolf thrashing against restraints. Silver symbols carved into stone. Voices chanting. Magic. Darkness.

"We're pretty sure we located the place, some abandoned house, but forget finding any clues. The place is a raging inferno. Jaxon almost lost his pretty face when the windows blew out." In the background, Jaxon piped in, "Chicks dig scars." Gavin bit back a grin at Wyatt's retorted, "We don't scar, dumbass. Werewolves, remember?" A disgusted sigh preceded Wyatt's next words. "I swear I'm going to get me a silver blade and give him a scar one of these days." Silver was the only material capable of leaving a lasting mark, other than the mating one. "You guys headed back to the motel?"
